Safe to polish?

Hey guys im new to detailing and one of the main reason I jumped on the purchase for the GG wolfgsng combo with orange white and blue pad was because of a hackjob polish I had recieved on my 2 month old car.
 
Is there a question in there?

As you can see the scratches are the reason I got the car polished to attempt to hide the scratches after someone dinhed my door or at least minimize them, which is how I got the buffer trails.
Several forum members have already informed me that its possible to take out the buffer trails. However is it safe to polish over a scratch like that. One option I had was to repaint the door, but at the time the car was 3 days old, and I wasnt about to repaint so I left it.

Looks like you should be able to at least reduce it to almost nothing from the pictures.
 
The scratches are pretty deep (my nail catches on it) and being a noobie I dont wamt to try wet sanding on a brand new car either. I dont mind leaving it there and having the door repainted in the future. But minimizing would be great.

OK, they didn't look deep from the photos...

Did you file it with your insurance company?
 
Yes I did, im pretty sure ive got 2 years to claim the door, however like I said im reluctant on repainting the brand new car. So the plan is just to minimize.

If you are going to do it, do it NOW before it gets any older because it will a lot easier to make the paint look the same.

I would get some estimates and see....

I hope he didn't rush to do so. I would wait for valuable answers, and look for the posts using a forum search. But don't rush wet sending and repainting as of yet. I believe there is a solution or at least a remedy.
 
Hello Vancity. Are you from Hawaii? And if so, which hack detail shop did this? Post a review on Yelp or Google. Businesses should be held accountable for their f-ups.

Don't bother re-painting, it'll open up another can of worms like a blemished CARFAX History Report, over spray, color mismatch, orange peel, or... If there is an indention, try a good PDR specialist to remove the indention. If you're from Hawaii, PM me for a couple really good recommendations.

It's hard to say without looking at your car in person but spot compounding and polishing:
1) might minimize the appearance of the major scratches and remove the holograms, or
2) might make the scratches more visible because all other blemishes have been removed.
 
We won't rally know for sure unless we are standing right in from of it so we can look at it... ;)

It's possible a few mins with a cutting pad and M105 could take care of it....

But we really don't know because we aren't there....
 
Thanks for the input guys, im from vancouver and the shop is called Exclusive Detailing. Ive gotten estimates from multiple other detailing shops after this happened most said they could make it loom 70% less visible but all wanted 150+ so I figured I might as well do it myself. I dont mind the scratches being there ive learned a car is a car and it cant be perfect, however I do plan to attempt to hide it, ive picked up an old hood from my friends shop and plan on practicing polishing on that before moving onto my friends black silverado SS, then finally my car. Also ive got the GG polisher with the wolfgang TSR and FG along with CCS orange/white/blue pads. I plan on using the white and FG combo to take care of the buffer trails. Then using the orange and tsr combo to take care of minimizing the scratch and the hazing that occured from the hack job detailing shop.

Also the scratches and byffer trails all occured the first week I bought the car, I spent the last 2 months looking at my options until I settled here where many helpful members said I could take care of the buffer trails myself, I didnt bother asking about the scratches now as I assumed they cant be taken out only minimized.

To me, those scratches look deep and wide. I don't think polishing will do much. The car is brand new, I would get it fixed correctly (re-paint). The only thing worse than a repainted door, is a door with scratches. The holograms are an easy fix. But, IMO TSR won't touch those scratches.

Not sure which pads you ordered (assuming LC CCS pads)...feel like in your last sentence you are working backwards? Orange is usually a cutting pad and white a polishing pad. Again, don't know which pads you ordered so just checking. :xyxthumbs:
 
Several members informed me that the white lc ccs pad with the fg combo will take out buffer trails withoit the need of using the orange cutting pad and tsr. However for the scratches ill start with the orange pad and the tsr then finish it off with the fg. Does that sound right or am I completely off..

To clarify the scratch is on the bottom section of the door I plan to mask that off while I deal with the buffer trails. And then using the orange pad on just the section with the scratch and the hazing.

Tsr is not going to remove a scratch your nail catches on. That is down passed the clear and probably base coat. Your best hope is to minimize it. Being a new car get it fixed right and painted.

I'm assuming you own an Infiniti? I had great luck with Menzerna SF2500 and PF4500 on a black Infiniti G37 with bad swirls.

You can use FG400 to make quick work of it but thats a bit aggressive for only holograms. I can see how a professional would rather take the quick method but if its my personal vehicle I prefer to spend a little more time and use the least evasive method.

I dont think any compound will remove a scratch that can be felt with your nail.
 
Id prefer not to repaint right now. The scratches are barley visible unless you bend down and look for it. I dont like the idea of repainting my whole door just for a couple small scratches. Ive thought about doing spot painting but havent had much luck looking for a shop willing to do spot painting. However if no compound will take it out and repainting the door is my only option I'd prefer to leave it for now. And yes I own a 2014 infiniti Q50S.

Anyone know of a reputable shop that does spot painting in lower mainland vancouver?

Don't bother repainting at all.

At MINIMUM you need to paint the entire door panel. And i guarantee you no matter how good the body shop is, you will be able to tell a difference in color at certain angles. Usually they would repaint half the door up to a sharp body line but your rear door has two body lines that only extend half way then diminish so painting half the door is not a possibility.

SECOND BEST would be to repaint the entire rear door and blend base coat into half of the front door and into half of the quarter and blend clear coat over the entire front door and quarter.

IDEALLY you would want to repaint the entire side including pillars up to the roof line.

Like i said earlier, you may fix a couple tiny scratches but you may open up a whole can of worms.
 
yeah, just went to a shop and spoke to a gentlemen about spot painting, he said it was a bad idea and the section painted usually fails after a few years, he took a look at the damage on my car and he suggested i leave it as its not deep enough to cause rusting or corrosion.
