Im trying the baggie technique on my own car, 1963 merc comet. After the usual procedure, wash > clay > meguires cutting > megiures finishing > wax. I try the baggie wipe, and there is some difference, but still a pretty gritty feeling. Whats the problem ? More claying Or no matter what the effort, the paint will feel rough with the baggie in hand.
 
Considering its an older car, can it be pits in the paint itself and not above surface contaminants?

Get something more aggressive to use instead of clay?

Nanoskin Autoscrub towel or pads if you have a DA polisher.

Mark the back of your Speed Surface Prep Towel
Use a permanent marker and mark each of the four quadrants to make it easy to monitor and know how which quadrant or section you've used as you detail cars. When you notice the performance of the current quadrant falling off switch to a new quadrant.

Hey, Mike. I have a new car (actually 1 year old) that I have kept up with Duragloss products, mostly. How do I know if I need a fine or a medium Speedy Surface Prep towel? Can I get the medium and not push as hard or do I get the fine? Thanks.
 
It may be junk in the paint

I am kinda new to this stuff but shouldn't you do the bag test while you are claying to ensure you have removed all contaminants? I recent clayed my 2013 mustang using Sonax clay kit and couldn't get it smooth. I just got a chemical guys clay kit and did a test spot on my hood and it feels smooth now.

Yes you should. If indeed there are still contaminants left on the paint, the OP wasted his time with all that polishing and waxing

being new to the site i am still trying to learn the site and how to navigate around it and stuff. i have seen a lot of threads about the baggie test and it got me interested.can anyone explain to me what exactly the baggie test is and how you do it?

The Baggie test is used to determine if your car has bonded contaminants which need to be removed.

1. Place your hand in a plastic sandwich bag.

2. Lightly glide the tips of your fingers on the paint.

3. If the paint feels rough, like sandpaper then you will need to clay.
