Maybe this is more of a cheap restoration but I figured you guys would enjoy some pictures of this 02 Mazda Protege 5 that I fixed up.

The detailing products i used:

Interior: Power Purple, Carpet cleaner, and some duragloss products.

Exterior: Some polish and my porter DA topped with some mothers wax. Nothing special.

Anyway this 02 has a bad miss. Here is what I found.
The car has not been looked after very well at all it had a pretty severe miss, ball joints are shot, drivers seat bracket is busted, Rusty rear hatch door, and just plain dirty and non loved. 165k miles brand new tires at least...

So I start looking into the miss. Pulled out the plugs and #1 was very oily and black, the rest were ok. Changed them out no change in the miss. Changed out the coils, again no change. Well next was a compression test.

#1 : 40lbs(wiggle) added oil, no change.
#2 : 190lbs
#3 : 189lbs
#4 : 188lbs

So off with the head, Sure enough #1 had a burnt exhaust valve. No wonder no compression and not running on #1 .

Here are some pics of my progress so far.

Here are some pics. I will try to get some more up soon. I got the rear hatch replaced with the one from the junk yard, as well as the drivers seat.

Got the interior cleaned up as well. The carpets are black again, and not brown! Couldn't get any pics as it was dark when I finished. Sorry no pics of this process. But I used dawn, power purple and lots of water, brushes and my shop vac. Last step was my little green machine. Car hadn't been even vacuumed out in years. Carpet was rock hard!

Some more work in progress pics. Don't worry the end results will come soon;)
First was off with the inner fender, the front nose, headlight, side effects, then the fender.

Ever wonder why fenders rust?

Clean them out! You have to take off the inner fender to get to this. But clean it out, prime and paint if needed before it rusts through!

After
Anyway just a few pics.

exhaust leak anyone...

old lca

Dirty engine bay. Man it was bad. Probably didn't help it was running on 3 cylinders for a while.

Not sure how people let their cars get like this...

Headlights restored via 3M kit.

After

Polished the front bumper as well. The rest of the car will shine up nice.

Hood before shows the condition of the paint.

Headlights Before.

During and after.

Just a note on the window tinting. I have now learned how to "dry" shrink the film on the outside of the window first. Live and learn. The whole car was about 25 bucks to tint, with pre-cut film. Not bad;)

After first coat of filler...

sanded and 2nd coat, and sanded again. I am thinking it will take 2 or 3 more light coats to get it all smooth.

Window tint. I took off the door panels, it makes it much easier.

Drivers door bottom repair.

Anyway on to some glamor shots.

sorry another duplicate. Not sure why.

Anyway enjoy the pics.

Wow, that was a ton of work! Great job. Mind telling how much you made on the flip?

Not a bad purchase for someone. Rock solid platform...I have over 215ooomi/347oookm on mine. Costs me under $50 a month to maintain & repair.

Thanks fellas. Yes that car was a blast to drive. Very sporty. Tall gearing for sure. 70mph top gear RPM was around 3250 if I remember right. But what that did do was made it very driveable!

I never did keep too much details of what I spent on the car. It was more about the process and saving the car. Honestly I was going to keep it however I kept my 93 protege instead;) But I am very sure I didn't loose any money on it:)
