Today when a friend dropped me off at my car in the parking lot today I looked and saw something I thought I never would - clear coat clouding on top of my rear bumper!

The car is only 10 years old and was a high school graduation present for me. Now I have a wife, a kid on the way, and I'm working full time barely making ends meet this summer and will be going back to school for my Master's in Aerospace Engineering this fall. I'm sure many of you may understand my frustration when I say - I don't have time for this!

I know the best option right now would be to polish it and Opti-Coat it, yet I find myself doing most things around the house at the moment considering how my wife has been feeling. And somewhere I have to find the time to unpack all of the boxes into the new place we moved into, and wifey doesn't understand why I am so preoccupied about the condition of the garage (can't fit a car in a 2-car garage right now). That, and I have never, and won't for quite some time, have the money for Opti-Coat.

Seems like I am destined to watch the clearcoat of my baby slowly fail.

Rant over. Thanks for reading.

@ aerogt01: I have felt your frustration in being somewhat helpless in not doing all the items on your "to do" list. Being an OCD type personality myself, I generally beat myself up internally if I cannot have things a certain way. (We recently moved into a newer house. I have prepped my garage three times to get it ready to install flooring. Everytime I am there, a new project crops up. First it was painting the kids rooms and their furniture, then replacing old kitchen cabinets with newer one. The garage became the defacto project/storage area. And my dreams of having my car protected from the elements is on hold) But on the plus side, I am getting the house in order to make it "ours".

With that said, You are about to experience becoming a father. Funny thing is, that the items I thought were important (pre-kids) just seem to go out the door with fatherhood. (I am a proud father of 11 year old twin girls). I know this sound odd on a detailing forum, but you will have bigger and better concerns than failing paint on your bumper. Yes it is a blight, but it can be corrected when time/money allows. Quite honestly, I did not even worry about any of my cars appearance (minus the occasional wash/spray wax) until my kids were a little older. Trust me, it will come and I usually use my detail time as a stress reliever. Best wishes
