Scared to death!

Skenzer, I remember the first time I put the PC to my Explorer's hood. I was scared I would ruin my paint. I gritted my teeth and started her up. Did a 2X2 section and was worried that I would see bare metal soon. I was WRONG OF COURSE!! When I wiped off the polish, it actually squeaked as the Cobra Indigo MF rubbed over the hood! The shine amazed me. It was squeaky clean. When I finished the hood, my neighbor walked by and thought that I had just waxed the hood! He asked what wax I was using, because it was so shiny. LOL
Try it, and you'll be hooked! You'll be wanting to do family member's cars just to see the transformation again.

LOL! You can also "polish" your car with the bare backing plate...that'll be sorta like sanding :p

ricka: Sorry, I can't say anything about the vibrations irritating your elbow, but it does vibrate. I would think that your elbow would get irritated..Have you ever tried out a pc?

skenzer: After you use an abrasive polish to take out your swirls, you can do a maintenance paint cleaning. You can do this more often than swirl removal. You can take a polishing pad or finishing pad, and use a chemical cleaner such as Pinnacle paintwork cleansing lotion, P21S paintwork cleansing lotion, XMT 360, Klasse AIO, etc. This will be an upkeep for your swirl free finish and will remove old layers of wax and sealants. Some of them have fillers as well.

Thanks, that's good info to have!

I was in your position when I first joined this forum. Look at me now, more than 2,000 posts and still learning!

I took Killr's advise and bought the Poorboys kit. My wife's hood of the Explorer was the test bed as it had deep etching from waterstains, bugs, you name it. You cannot really mess up with a PC or a UDM, they are fool proof.

Good luck with whatever you purchase!

Carlos..what a powerful statement! I know the only way to screw up paint using a UDM..glue sandpaper to your backing plate and go wild!!:D

Well about the statement, what can I say if you don't try you never know :D so try things once at least...if your always scared you'll miss out in life.

As for the backing plate and gluing sandpaper....that would work to remove deep swirls hahahaha ;) and some hahahahaha

Thanks for the advice. I ended up gong with the PC and Poorboy's kit. :D

Perfect start :D you won't be disappointed! Poorboy's SSR's are good from what I've read, and you already have a wax, detail spray, and waterless wash (spray and wipe) with the Poorboy's kit.

I posted this before and hope to get a response this time.

I too am looking to buy a UDM but have some troublesome tendonitis in my right elbow and wondering if the vibrations over hours of use to polish paint will aggravate it too much...

Do some of you in here have elbow tendonitis issues (especially long-term detailers) to where I may want someone to polish it for me once or twice a year allowing me to continue having fun maintaining the washing/waxing/sealing by hand.

Thanks again.

I think it may aggravate it, I have no joint/muscle problems but my knuckles and wrists get kind of sore/numb after using the PC. I have not used the UDM yet so its hard for me to judge the UDM.

I have heard the Festool is a good way to go to minimize vibrations.

My Metabo does not give me numb hands!

I got my PC right here at the Geek over a year ago. Yeah, it was noisy and vibrates bad on speed 6, then it quit working after 10 months. I called AG and they found a repair center that was only a few miles away. They fixed it free under warranty and I swear, it runs 10X smoother and quieter than it did new - this was also verified by another detailer ( dude said he was going to take his in for "repair" - it was that much better) I've seen, tried the UDM and I think since they got the bugs in the switch corrected, you would probably like that better. Me? I still like the PC, but I moved on to a Makita rotary - once you try that, you'll never "correct" paint with a PC/UDM ever again.

I can now say that thanks to all of you I have gotten through my first PC/detailing project without any major glitches.
It was scary at first......starting the PC up and putting that spinning pad on my baby's paint. however, everything turned out great!

It's ironic isn't it? I can scratch the paint on my Jeep with a towel but putting a spinning pad on it with abrasives fixes those very scratches...What a wonderful tool. :D

Thanks again you guys....

No longer scared of my PC
Brad

Congrats skenzer! The PC/UDM experience is fun :) Hope to see pics soon!
