Scared to quit my day job

Remember to keep track of your detailing, prompt your customers about coming back by doing follow ups such as its been x weeks since your last detail. Winter months can slow business down, but you can keep customers coming in by offering services to get salt and deicing products off the car and under carriage. Those of us that live in snow belt regions know that the products that are put on the highways when snow falls will eat away at the finish real quick if not removed in a timely manner. If you have snow in your area it can be a quick money maker if you are willing to offer the service.
 
JLWinter, do you have a fixed location you operate out of in the winter to provide the clients or are you mobile? Thanks.
 
During the winter I work out of my home garage, since most of my clients are within 10 miles of my house. This gives me access to hot and cold running water. The rest of the year I'm mobile.
 
Marketing gets you new business.
Networking gets you new business.
Networking in 2 forms.
Everyone you meet in the course of your life.
Every new customer you get is another source, provided you exceed the customer's expectations. That's called referrals.

Consider your friends, family, relatives, co-workers, etc. as your warm market.

Everyone else is prospecting. Your ability to stay in business depends on your ability to create an ever larger circle of people who know you, know what your abilities are, and can recommend you to their warm market.

Kyle nailed it!

Many years ago I started a home business while I had (what was at the time) a very good full time job with full benefits. The business, which I ran outside of work hours, quickly grew to the point where it was clear that if I was serious about the business, I would need to quit my job so I could give my full attention the the business.

This is the position you want to be in. The position where the business basically makes your decision for you.

Do your details when you aren't working and see how things go. Eventually you'll either: A: reach a point where going full-time is the obvious choice, or B: end up finding out that this isn't what you really want to do. Either way, you still have your job to fall back on until you reach the point where a decision absolutely must be made.
 
I do OK with detailing but had to supplement with powerwashing and minor landscape jobs. Met some great folks along the way. But 2013 is the year that I depart the game. Back to former career.
