School me on Iron X by CarPro

I've used Iron X many times on wheels.

Can you tell me about using it on paint? Does the surface need to be wet?? I know it doesn't need to dry and it's best to let it work for approx. 5 minutes. Any drawback to using it??

I tend to apply it on dry paint, but have used it on wet paint with decent results.

Use it on a cool panel, in the shade, in a well ventilated area. Spray liberally onto the surface and allow to dwell for several minutes. After this period of time, you may then gently agitate with a sponge to further loosen any contaminates if you choose. Note: DO NOT LET IT DRY ON THE PAINT!!!

IronX, as you probably know, works to remove the above surface, bonded Iron particles that are very common. Using Iron X as your first step in decontamination has the potential to greatly reduce the amount of time spent claying. I say "has the potential" because there is always the chance that a particular vehicle may not have much iron contamination, in which case the Iron X step may be relatively uneventful.

I spray it on, let it dwell 5-10 minutes. Take my wash mitt and wash the car with Iron-X on it. Rinse. Foam the car done again then clay or speedy prep towel.

My process. Foam, Wash, Rinse, Iron-X, Rinse, Foam, Clay, Rinse. Dry.

I have only used it on a dry almost dry car. On a wet car is a waste of product as it runs off much faster

Correct ! better use the IronX on dry car, more effect over the surface , water layer will dilute it more and make it less effective.

In Mike's book he references BobbyG for his advice to wash the vehicle, dry it, then use IronX. Some were using it dry prior to washing, while others were washing and spraying the IronX while the car was still wet. Finally BobbyG added his advice and this was thought to be the best way to use IronX. Followed by rinsing and washing again of course. I believe this was referencing a wheel and not the entire car but I imagine it would apply to the entire car as well.

I have also diluted 4:1 and gotten results. Be sure to use it diluted only on a clean, dry panel. Its obviously not as strong though, as I've reapplied full strength after the diluted version and it bled more.

Diluted I usually save for new vehicles or good condition paint. I'll usually use the diluted stuff after claybar. My thinking is there is less work it has to do after claybar, and its only concentrating on the iron particles.

I know its not recommended by car pro to dilute it, but its still mostly effective. Hope my experience helps.

Instructions from Corey at the CarPro website. Note step 2--by using a small sponge to spread the product you use much less product and it still works great.

A.-Use outside or with sufficient ventilation.

B.-Use latex or Nitrile gloves, and face protection.

C.-If there is an inordinate amount of tree sap, tar, other organic material, wax, or sealants on the vehicle I recommend you strip them first so Iron X can attack the ferrous particles without any interference. This is not required but is how I like to do it for best results.

D.-For best results apply to a mostly dry surface. A few drops of water is ok.

1.-Shake the bottle.

2.-You can cover the surface with Iron X by spraying it everywhere but that can be wasteful. I recommend that you spray as needed and spread it with a small sponge or applicator to cover the entire surface. You may also consider using an atomizer type spray bottle or HVLP gun. In any case evenly cover the surfaces you wish to decontaminate. The product is strong so you don’t have to be wasteful. Just make sure it contacts the entire surface.

3.-Allow the product to dwell for 5 minutes in the shade. Do not allow it to dry in the sun.

4.-After allowing to dwell take a damp (not soaked) grout or other paint safe sponge (or other media if you prefer) and agitate the surface.

5.-Thoroughly rinse the surface.

you could just test those ratios and tape off an area of the car, one for each ratio.

I'm going to be using it 1:1 and dry the car before use to see how that goes.

Like Ken said. It's not as strong but due the the Benz in that picture being so contaminated, it bled very much. I'm sure I wouldn't have needed it to dwell longer if I used it at full strength but then I feel I waste product. IX isn't cheap.

I figure since I'm going to give it a clay anyway it wouldn't matter too much if I diluted or not. It did indeed help.
