Scottsdale Detail- 2004 Black GTO Polish Seal & Wax

That's funny that you say that about the roof.. The clay mit on this thing sounded like I was rubbing sandpaper across the roof (i joked that it sounded like a hip hop scratch machine).

Yeah it's weird the roof on the one the guy wants me to try and 'help'. Your analogy of a scratch machine, brings to mind light bouncing off a record at an extreme angle. That is EXACTLY what his roof looks like, almost silver in color the swirls/scratches are so bad.

Honestly I doubt it can be repaired without strike-through but should be able to be 'helped'. OptiCoat as thick as possible would likely be the only way to help, not cure, but come short of having to repaint the entire roof.

The trunk and hood look like they'll finish decent enough. And of course all the vertical panels have the el-cheapo re-spray and will buff for sure. Heck the headlights had the spar-mineral spirits treatment with REALLY thick spar varnish!

So why is it that you don't like Chemical Guys and barely use any of their products?

Hehe.

Looks awesome!! :dblthumb2:

I guess you can say I fell into their marketing/discount traps. I can say that I agree with pretty much else that 90% of their products rock the other 10% ... work but leave something to be desired (see my complaint about the v38 consistency above).

I like the GTO's, liked what they did after the 1st year, went from the 5.7 to the 6.0, added the hood scoops (faux I know) and added one pipe on each side of the rear diffusor, a proper rear diffusor too, not like the one on the C7. Can't afford an M3, get a GTO that's been well looked after and no, not saying its the same car but similar in looks and perf.

Sent from my SPH-M930 using AG Online

Wait? What? What rear diffuser? Cause they just had a crappy grey panel between the pipes. I'd know, I had one.

Or... Had one... For 6 months. Til my brother decided to perform some body work with a light pole.

Not to go too off tangent on this car but it kind of got a double whammy- the initial gto concept was awesome (you can see actually where the 5th gen camaro got its rear quarter panels from), but the car that was delivered was completely different. The other issue was that when Bob Lutz came up with bringing the car back to the US the exchange rate between the US dollar and Aus Dollar was favorable for a low 20's v8 sports car. By the time the car was able to be released it looked dated and cost about 15K more.

They never had an idea to restyle the Monaro before shipping the 04 cars to the US. $15k more? Where are you getting your info? I surely don't believe they were ever planning to sell the car for $13000.00 USD. I bought my 06 as a new left over in March 07 for $28k +++. I wouldn't believe the GTO was ever targeted to be a low $20's car. A loaded 02 WS6 stickered in the lower $30's and could be bought in the high $20's. Wouldn't make much sense to bring over a fully loaded car and price it under that mark. It always seems that so much misinformation comes up with these cars, how they were brought over, and why they died. As far as being dated, that's pretty much expected when the car was designed 7-8 years before being sold in the NA market. The Monaro that the GTO was cloned from originally went on sale in AUS in 1998!!!!

Haha, for sure!

I have several of their products. They are okay. Some are better than others I guess. But I've been more impressed with other brands. Their hex-logic pads I'm not a fan of. Their clay lube is pretty great though, and their pad cleaner.

Hate to quote wikipedia-
From promoting his initial idea to the time the GTO reached North America, Lutz had spent much time trying to convince GM executive hierarchy to import the car, and overcoming the obstacle of a corporate culture that promoted regional autonomy between GM North America and its overseas divisions. This resulted in an "unnecessarily long gestation period," as Lutz put it, and the final product arrived much later in its design cycle and at a much higher cost than anticipated. The Monaro design had existed since 2001, but by 2004, its design already appeared "dated" when it was released in the United States. It was also originally slated to sell in the US with an approximate $25,000 price. However, by the time the car was released, the Australian dollar's growth against the US dollar inflated the final price of the car to well over $34,000. Both of these elements played a significant role in the car's lukewarm acceptance by the general public.[13]
