scratches

hi folks could someone please tell me what to use on my truck to get the scratches out. I have a 2005 dakota quad cab its paitroit blue pearl. Its a dark blue scratches are in the clear coat not the paint. I dont have a lot of money to buy the good stuff.
Can anyone help please.

Do you have a machine polisher? If not, Meg's Ultimate Compound can be used by hand.

If you don't have a dual action polisher then you might as well work by hand as all the other cheapie buffers are really only good at spreading out waxes, not removing swirls.

Also, when you say the scratches are not in the paint, they're in the clear coat... the clear coat is the paint.

Removing scratches out of clear coat paints is a lot of work by hand because the clear layer tends to fairly hard, at least compared to old single stage paints.

It can be done but you can only work small areas at a time.

Another option would be to use a good cleaner/wax and thoroughly work the product into and over the surface. This won't remove the majority of the swirls but only the very shallow ones, at least not by hand, but it will make the paint look a whole lot better.
