Sealant Over Wax

For a while now, we have been or have been hearing that we can/should top sealant with a wax. Lately I have seen some discussions about the wax breaking down the sealant. My question is, does that work the other way around also. Would it make sense or help to put a sealant over a wax? Or would chemicals in the sealant break down the wax? Should individuals just choose which they would like to apply, either a sealant or a wax? I'm asking because I have some Powerlock and Colorlock on the way.

Thanks in advance...

I use wolfgang DGPS 3.0. Ive tried different waxes and sealants over and under it, but it always last the longest and looks the best when I use it ONLY

Conventional detailing wisdom says sealant first, then wax. There's various arguments why not to go with wax first.

Here's my experience with 3 different vehicles, WGDGPS, and about 6 carnauba waxes. There is NO difference in looks topping a sealant with a wax. My eyes, pictures and even my wife's eyes don't lie. I'd bet topping a wax with a sealant would be the same.

Better coverage, sacrificial wax barrier? Who knows and how would you test it?

For me, I'm going with WGDGPS only. Then if I get the urge to rub paint a few weeks later, I'll get out the carnauba just for the hell of it.

I topped WG 3.0 with WG Fuzion and the difference is blindingly apparent.

The paint appears much wetter and deeper.

:iagree: (not necessarily WGDGPS, but any sealant)

Keep it simple IMO

Wow that is beautiful!! You do incredibe work!! As for what I do; I will put a sealant on 1st and then a wax for the wet look and depth. IMO you can tell the difference. So I am in your camp on this one.
However, you have to be careful on some of the waxes you put on over a sealant. Some waxes will ghost (haze) over a sealant. If that is the case, then IMO that wax itself is best alone as the LSP.

So sealant and a wax is the majority of the time. Wax by itself is also fine too. But IMO I think a sealant over a wax might not be the route I would go. It just doesn't make sense. Sealant gives longevity wax gives depth and wet look.

Thanks Kam.

And I agree 100% with everything you said. I wouldn't put a sealant on top of a wax. And synergy between the sealant and wax is key. As we know, some "waxes" may have cleaners in them and affect the sealant. I try go with the same family of products, exception being when I know the LSP/Wax has no cleaners in it.

That was about an 85% correction with Menzerna 3-n-1 and WG 3.0. I put Fuzion on the hood, roof and trunk because he's my buddy.
