Sealant vs Coating Question

I'd like to see some coatings on daily drivers. Typically the photos that get posted are exotics or high end cars that don't require much to make them look sexy.
 
^ here you go. you can't see much in these pictures in terms of coating or actual finish quality, but, rest assured, it's in fantastic shape by absolutely anyone's standards. i would encourage anyone to inspect it with LEDs and try to tell me it's not sensational. the truck is outside 24/7, driven every single day. was coated in early summer 2014 and these pics are from outside of a Red Robin late winter...the bottom pics are random shots i took after washing it late one day where i caught the driveway light reflection off of the front fender. this truck is the number one reason why i recommend coatings. it's not a garage queen like my benz. a woman who is now pretty damn good at being careful drives it every single day and it's fully exposed every minute of every day.

My observation, water spot still occur with coatings. Dirt repellency sonax pns is better.
Some might not agreed :)
I would recommend to coat both DD and show car garage kept for ease of maintenance.
If time is not an issue,forget about coating and just use your desire wax or sealant. My choice would be wash 2-3 times weekly and top with D156.
Both coating or sealant needs to be Polish whenever necessary.
It all comes down to each individual choices :D

thanks. it's a long story but i had a scum bag detailer in PA apply Opti-Coat Pro and Xpel film. he botched the finish throughout the vehicle, either pre or post coating, as well as the film installation, so the film was removed and he re-did the paint finish/coating. well, he didn't fully remove the film adhesive, coated over it and also had a ton of high spots of the coating throughout the vehicle. he also botched the installation of DLux on all of the the rubber trim (and Opti-Guard on the leather seats!) so, at that point, i ended up cleaning it up, taking it all down and re-coating it all, except the rubber trim, with Opti-Coat.

Opti-Coat can be challenging to install but Gloss-Coat is NOT and i fully recommend it.

Man beautiful!! IMO I do not care coating, wax, sealant or any combination....it is the talent of the detailer (ie builthatch) that makes the car. Incredible save and incredible work!!

IMO any detailer that cares about his work are ARTISTS Bar none!! That goes for most of us on AGO!! This is regardless if you use a coating, a sealant or a wax or any combination....PERIOD!! All are artist! Your tools and product are the paint and canvas....

So much for the arguments that coatings can't compete in the "looks" department when compared to wax or sealants. Case closed.
 
Impressive pics. I still wonder though if it's the prep work that makes it look like that or if the coating plays a role in it. A lot of credit seems to be given to products... I don't have the AG detailers eye yet,but I'm still trying to distinguish between a waxes "warm glow" and everything else. Some marketing words I just don't understand.
Anyone have a pic of wax, sealant, and a coating on one panel?

curious to know your experiences about PBL coating , Cquartz uk & BF coating.mind share? :)

Directions from mfg are pretty much straight forward with regards to all coatings.

PBL - Use PBL Surface Cleanse polish, apply PBL Paint Coating with LC application, I spread in cross hatch pattern

UK - Panel wipe with Eraser, apply UK with CarPro Block and 4x4 mf suede. If you use Reflect as final polish then you can do just 1 wipe down with Eraser. However, if you're using Menzerna FG400 or SF4000 definitely 2 wipe downs with Eraser. Additionly, apply UK in a cross hatch pattern with CarPro block and suede, wait 30 seconds and buff of with Suede MF then buff off same area with CarPro BOA MF(what I choose). Reduce the chance of high spots.

BF - just ordered so have no idea but I believe the process will be similar to UK. I'll use a D114/Iso Panel wipe then BF Crystal Paint Prep Spray before I apply the BF coating...

Excellent. I have several paste waxes and a sealant, but don't have a coating yet. I've observed paint that "pops" with using a paste wax and I've seen some shine enhancement with my spray sealant. The warm glow effect still eludes me. In my opinion the cars in this thread with coatings have a high reflection and depth.

Perhaps cars with coatings have better prep work since they're longer lasting lsp's which demand extremely clean paint, and that's why they look better to my eyes.

I generally use sealants or waxes but all this talk about coatings has me more intrigued than ever, so here is my question for all you coating experts. Would you recommend applying a coating one panel at a time or all in one session. The reason I ask is because I don't really have the time or energy/motivation to work much more then one panel at a time.
