Selective Parking

Yep I park way away from everyone, in fact at work I fight for this one space in a satellite lot that has landscaping on one side and 3 handicap slots on the other next to an empty building, I'll walk the quarter mile to the door.
The wifey/commander in chief used to not get it but tolerated my parking habits, then she got a new car and the first weekend someone put a door ding in it, PDR fixed like new but she gets it now. Maybe your girl will have an epiphany as well?

what I don't get is the magnetic feature that a nice shiny car seems to have in a parking lot.

There will be 20 spaces in the row we are in that are closer to the store and I will be 5 spaces away from the nearest car and yet when we get back out someone will have parked right next to us. Leaving 19 spaces that would have gotten them closer to the store.

We do the same thing with picking the vehicle we like less for the worse parking lots. Ironically though it has gotten less door dings through the years

I know what you mean! It's like a law of "car physics".....nice cars attract SUVs in parking lots.

Bobble, she gets it now. Even my buddies laugh at me. We all went to movies once took me 20 min to find space. One space was next to mini van. This could mean children who are careless or they will be bringing a shopping cart or large item back to there can. Other spot was nice but guy who parked, parked unparalleled slightly meaning if he backs up his car without correcting his steering wheel can have the chance of him hit ting me. There are more factors but you guys get the point

My GF is the same way. She's one of those people that will drive all over the parking lot trying to find that front spot.

Me on the other hand drives right to the back of the parking lot where no one is and park there. I don't mind the walk.

The funny thing is that even when I park where no one is...there is ALWAYS that one jerk that has to park right next to me! Pisses me off beyond belief!

That would be me :)

If I see another car in the back, I'll park next (not to close) to it so my car won't get lonely whilst I'm away

What I am curious of is, for those of you who take up more than one parking space, like by parking in the middle of two spots, have you ever gotten in trouble for doing that? My bro parks his car half of the time on the grass at shopping centers to avoid other cars. Only got in trouble once by the 'mall cop'.

We have designated parking at my appartment... when my spot was assigned i noticed my cars neighbors were a small plot of grass before a fence (end spot) and a 2010 mercedes E class black and looked freshly detailed.. i was in heaven... i park my car in near the grassy area so we both have ample room (i pull in because the gate is right next to me so pulling out isnt easy) she backs in so its driver door to driver door... but she keeps creeping in my spot to get away from the car next to her that really pisses me off.... but as far as parking lots... all the way back... and garages all the way up if its dark and one level down if its light... yes ive passed fully open levels before to go up... when we came back my car was all alone, lower levels packed :bigpimp:

Sorry to here it man. I'm always the one parked so far in the back isolated from anything and my GF says the same thing. She knows she has to suck it up though cause I would never park close to anyone. I watch people open doors into other cars and just push carts into other cars all the time. One time I told this lady shes an a-hole for opening her door into some random vehicle and she just pshh'ed me lol. I could never share a brand new car with my GF because of this.

1.I always drive my wife to the door and i have her wait for me (if i go in) at the front of the store. when she is done shopping and is in line i go get my remotley parked car and meet her at the front door. she thinks im chivalrous and i get to park far away. problem solved.
2. i like people who park in two spots cause i'll park next to them and get my space and 1/2 of their left over space.
3. I goto a megachurch our parking lot is huge but sometimes there are not enough spaces. once i saw a parking lot attendant give a church ticket to a guy who took up 2 spaces it was priceless. if you get too many church ticket you wont get into heaven. lol.

Not sure if anyone else does this, but when I come out of a store after I parked far away from everything out there and I notice cars parked around me, I analyze like a scientist if any new door dings have risen. Yes I am that anal about my baby, but I had someone in a move theater open his door into my side view mirror and I ended up having him pay for a new mirror, and a repaint on both mirror covers... I won't stand for it... I WON'T I TELL YOU!!!!!!! :)

Count me on that!
I always choose to walk more just to get my car parked in a safe calm place... =]

I will never take up 2 spots ever. My GF's brother 3 years ago bought a brand new Honda Civic SI. Nice car kept it clean and drove to a bar one night and parked all the way in the back in 2 spots. When he leaves the bar and goes to his car and someone keyed "2 spots ?" on both sides of his car. So depressing :( . That's why I will never do that.

My wife is the same way too. Even though I offer to drop her off and pick her up at the door, every now and then she will still get mad for some reason. Then I simply point out that my car is free if door dings after 4 years and hers has at least 6 on it within 3 years.

needless to say we usually take her car now, especially when I know we are going to have to park near someone. ;)

So my girl gets mad at me how we always have to walk further to movies, dinner, or anywhere we go cause I won't park near certain objects or cars. She laughs, gets mad, and tells me Im too cautious and paranoid too. Today, she goes out with some friends to see a movie. I tell her, when she parks the car, to park in either the parking structure, or way in the back so the car won't be touched. Her being the "smart one" parks near a bunch of unmanned grocery carts. About 2 hours later I get a call about how a cart has hit her car. Once i saw the car I couldn't believe the dent that was left in her brand new car. Now we have to get whole front bumper and driver side fender replaced after I just did a detail job on it with my BF products. Such a sad day today.
Yep. Same thing happened to my girls new Mini a few years back. She parks FAR away from anything with anything she drives. She just isn't smart enough to park in safe areas where carts won't go on a windy day...

I have heard of this happening to someone else and has me not taking up two spots no matter how far out it is. A shiny car gets attention anyway and could catch the eye of a vandal, 2 parking spots just adds to it.

It took a few years to get my wife to stop using her "parking Karma" for an upfront spot. Out here it seems to not matter though, I am getting ready to replace the 5th bumper on her Sequioa in 6 years, this one only lasted 2 months bumper number 2 got rear ended the day I picked it up from the body shop. this time they also ripped off the fender flare as well. so 4 hit and runs I've paid the deductable on....

I used to look but then I wondered, what am I going to do sit there and wait for them to come out? And then what is to stop them from just saying "I didn't do that" Getting in their car and leaving?

Yes, that is one reason why I do not do that either, but occasionally I do if its in a relatively 'nice' place. I wonder how much of an idiot someone would look like if they put a car cover on their car at a parking lot? hmm…anyone ever do this lol?

:iagree:

I will park at the ends of the earth, but i try not to draw extra attention.
