hey guys I've been silent for quite sometime I've just been busy with life lately. but last night i sent a message to an individual who runs a corvette rental service. i had asked if he had a detailer and he had mentioned that he does but could really use some more to just wash the vettes during the spring and summer when he's too busy to do it himself. he owns three corvettes one of them being a convertible he had his detailer treat all of them with c-quartz so he had stressed that they need nothing more than a wash. he wants to strictly focus on the interior and the wheels. he would like to sit down with me this Thursday to talk and i have a basic idea of how to present myself and my services. what should i offer what do you guys think would be a good price? i was thinking $25 an hour but don't want to scare the guy away with a high price but on the flip side he does live about a hour and a half away from me depending on traffic. or should i do a package that includes all three vehicles? please share some info on some of your thoughts thanks in advance guys.

Well my complete detail starts at $200 for that car size. With that said you need to know what he really wants you to do before I can give you a price I think you should charge. You need to know if there is any paint correction in involved that would increase price a lot for me. I would charge him travel time and it should be per car and then give him a total for all the cars.

That sounds like a sweet opportunity!

As far as pricing is concerned, you need to address the business as a business. You set a price you are comfortable with and he will counter with a price he is comfortable with, and the agreement is a place between both where both parties are somewhat uncomfortable but still happy.

I have the luxury of not depending on detailing as a primary income so my price are my price, take it or leave it. I am booked solid year around with maintenance detailing, and normally have a 2-3 week waiting list for more advance detailing/corrections... and have 2 guys working with me.

Don't let the potential relationship and the excitement of working on those corvettes make you lose perspective of the fact that you have to run a business. You know what your time is worth and how much you need to make ends meet. If you agree to compromise on this 3 car deal you may have to pass on other more profitable details. It is Ok to sacrifice a little income for the assurance of steady business but....

detailing isn't my primary source of income as well. purshine he was real adamant about all 3 vehicles not needing anything more than a wash. i don't have any experience with c-quarts but from what i read it could last up to 2 years without needing any polishes or wax. i don't have much business at the moment i have some return customers starting to book for the spring but thats about it. i'd like to use this opportunity to start building a better reputation and to get my name out as well. maybe people won't think i'm just a guy with a bucket and wash glove once they see that I'm trusted with high value vehicles. could be completely wrong but thats just what i'm thinking right now.

Did you guys not discuss price already? That subject usually comes up within the first 30 seconds when someone calls me

account for all the work you are doing and what you would be doing to them. I think with this guy you should do different areas of the car on certain times like maybe a wash and rims one day and interior another. I would shoot for around 25-30 an hour

no price wasn't discussed he didn't ask he had just said that he was happy that i wrote him and that he was interested in meeting to discuss a proposition. he said that he didn't need a weekly detailer because he can handle the cars when he has time but needed someone to care for the vehicles when he was too busy which works well for me having 2 other jobs and it not being weekly leaves room for my other clients as well. i'm the one who had approached him about my services.

he also has a truck and trailer that he hauls the vettes in. i believe both truck and trailer are vinyl wrapped and was thinking of suggesting a maintenance program for both of those as well. i don't have experience with cleaning vinyl i assume its just a wash. would it even be worth it to wax vinyl? but my main focus on the truck and trailer would be the wheels glass and interior especially interior because this truck is this guys office.

Why are you targeting customers 1 and a half hrs from your house? If he is telling you all he wants is a wash why would you even consider it? Time is money, 3hr round trip to wash 3 cars is not a good idea. Look for customers near you.

:iagree: That works out to more like $12.50 an hour with travel time plus gas and mileage on your vehicle. I'd pass on that at even $40.00 hr, to much travel time.

because the shop i use to detail is up that way. i can't afford a shop or garage at the moment so I've been using a friends shop so all of my clients have been in that area so either way whether i take the job or not i still have to travel out that way to detail.
