Seriously?! My rant about "soft" black paint

I agree, can be very pricey for proper install. Very least would be bumper/rockers/mirrors as any black car seems to be a rock magnet. No real albums, but here's a pic of the ride after I brought it home from PPF/Ceramic:

Those Audi sport backs always look so sweet. Congrats on an awesome car.

I live on a dirt road...sucks for keeping any car clean much less a black Honda...I tried pre soak soaps,powerwashing,4 bucket methods etc and it was still lightly scratched all the time...at least spray waxes helped keep it shiny..it got totalled during the pandemic :(

Yeah car clear coat is suuuuuuper fragile to the lighting touch. A touch with the finger is enough to leave scratches. I've found that dry microfiber clothes also leave large gaping scratches.

That's why I'm going to conduct some experiments on this, especially with products like ONR claiming to scratch less. Watch out for my car care research thread.

Also with black, I think scratches show up even more easily. If you guys want to fund my research, lemme know! It may save you money and headache in the long run.

Black vehicles are a nightmare to maintain, but they sure do look amazing when fully detailed.

I will say about black cars, if you maintain it and have a good shiny base and a good LSP, a mildly dirty car will still look good.

Point in case, it stormed the other morning on the way to work and I mean stormed like mad and my car still looks good for most people.

From 6’ away....

But from about a 1’ away you can see it needs to be washed.

At least I’ll have a good excuse to wash the car tomorrow morning!

I used to own a black 04 Infiniti G35. Talk about soft, you could rub a cotton ball along the paint and scratch it. I was chasing the scratches especially where the wife would climb out of the car by grabbing the side of the car to help her get out. So this area was polished so much that there was just barely a hint of red primer showing. So with the help of one of the forum members, ( accum.) I was told to apply Optimum Opti-Coat. Wow, what a difference, a beautiful product, from that point on no more scratches. It looked beautiful everytime I washed it, it looked as if I just detailed it.

My Audi is black but the paint is hard. Once I removed any marring I didn't want to go near it again because black can be so much work! I also take care of my mom's black Mercedes CLK. The paint is also hard Ceramiclear. She drives the car only in perfect weather so the condition has remained really good over the past 15 years.

I don't know what is worse: chasing marring or keeping on top of the brake dust from German cars. I know Mercedes brake dust can drive you insane.

It's a good thing I'm semi retired because black is a full time job. Not a hobby.

I ‘ve realized black cars are beautiful when there someone else’s. Everyone loved the Mustang because i maintained it and it wise shiny and glossy.

Personally i would see every minute defect and was burned into my memory.

I said never again but
