I will be doing a detail on my friends 2007 Infinity. I don't know if the wheels are clearcoated or not. The wheels have been hit with the sprinkler for more than a year and are badly water spotted and stained. I plan on starting with Iron X followed by Carpro Spottless. I will then use PS21 Wheel cleaning Gel followed by PS21 Finish Restorer. Finally, I'll spay with Sonax Wheel Rim Shield. Is this the correct order of products? Is it overkill? My friend thinks the wheels are too far gone and was going to have them refinished. I think I can bring them back.

Depending on how hard the water spots have etched, spotless might not remove it. I'd suggest, and this is gonna be tedious but a microfiber cloth after all the cleaning is done with a bit of a finishing polish and work it in, you night have better luck with that.

If they are not gone after Iron X and a few treatments of Spotless, take them off one by one and polish. If they are the factory alloys, you should be able to polish them. You may need to cut then polish. A picture will help here however.

Before you apply CarPro Spotless make sure the wheel is clear coated because Spotless is a mild acid and could etch aluminum if it's not coated.

The wheel is probably clear coated if it's stock. The way you can tell is to take a light colored MF towel or applicator and rub some polish on the cleaned wheel. If the MF towel or applicator turns black then the aluminum is not clear coated. If there's no change in color then it's clear coated.
