So about 3 years ago I bought my 1988 Mitsubishi Mighty Max from the original owner. It had been maintained very well other than the paint.

I drove it like that for a while then bought another car. When it was stolen I started driving it again and wanted to clean it up.
I used Meguires cleaner wax on it one day for kicks and grins and that brought some color back. I should say that at this point I had not done any more detailing than clay baring and hand waxing.

Not too long after that I started working at Mitsubishi as a detailer. My first day I buffed my truck with some generic swirl remover.

A few weeks after this I let a layer of Meguires no. 7 sit on the paint over night at work. I used that same swirl remover on it again. I don't have any pictures of this.

After i got more comfortable with a buffer and had a little more knowledge (thanks to this forum for the most part) I decided to cut and buff my old single stage paint, topped off with some Meguires gold class wax.

Here's a side by side.

What do you guys think? Keep in mind this is my first paint "restoration". Feed back please

Great job noc. Just keep it up, and please don't hesitate to asking for guidance. That's how I became the expert detailer I am today.:buffing: Good luck and take care.

Peace,

Darrin

Nice work, it looks great! Always nice to see a MM/D50 get some love. I used to have one as well that an acquaintance used to call "the lousy box". I wish we'd get some new mini trucks back in the states. I may just have to import a Mighty Boy at some point.

Excellent job bring life back into that paint work, you definitely made him/her feel 16 again

Nice job and way to make it your own. I noticed that you added tint to the windows from the first time you bought the car. Enjoy the journey, have fun!

Shame what happened with your other vehicle. What was it, if you don't mind my asking.

Do you get hassle with the tint? They don't like tints here in CA.

Also, I prefer the steelies on there. They fit better, IMO.

Looks good, keep in mind the dealer detailers do often use improper techniques and often should learn how to maintain paint better, not you necessarily but just the part of the industry

Check out Duragloss 501 as well. It is a chemical paint cleaner and it works great on single stage paints.

It was a 96/97 integra. I paid 500 bucks for it, and it had like 300,000 miles on it. It was supposed to be a parts car for my other integra but I just ended up driving it.

I don't get hassled for my tint and its darker than legal. I actually plan to retint it a little darker eventually. The truck does not have a/c and it gets hot in the summer.

I don't like the stock wheels much. I think the chevy wheels make it look a little better. I plan to keep what I call the "old man look" and they don't take away from it too much. Plus I have a better selection of tires.

That looks a 100 times better than before. Now drop that thing on the ground and get some big wheels :)

I didn't comment when I looked at this the other day. You're truck looks great. I'm partial to red. Are those Z-71 wheels?

Yes they are. The centers had to be machined out to 108mm to fit over my stock hubs. Believe it or not this is a one ton truck, with a 100hp 4 cylinder engine. haha
