Shipping Quote during Checkout for International Orders

pleasure to do business with you guys.

my first order was for about $350 value and it cost $115 to ship to Australia.
ok, fair enough

Second Order, $900 value, $420 to ship to Australia
hmmmm. order cancelled

Third Order, $340 value, $240 to ship to Australia
i got 2 days to cancel. hmmm


my suggestion would be to have shipping estimates during checkouts, rather than having to place the order, confirm payment, wait day(s) for shipping estimate only to find out its way more than anticipated.

but hey, im just One Guy living far far away from you.

just my thoughts
 
I also don't like it as I feel guilty.

i.e, if I got an instant automatic quote of $300 I would try removing various items & seeing what made a big difference to the shipping cost.
But when you're asking someone to actually physically remove an item, reweigh your order, see if it can now fit in a smaller box, etc you really don't want to ask too many times...
Think I must have driven Penny crazy last time I ordered!
 
Shipping quotes change allot , almost same prices for the $350 . Wonder why , is it because of sizings , weight .
 
with my limited experience with local courier services, it seems they calculate costs by taking the greater of;

overall box dimensions, or;
overall package weight

so i think keeping the package as light as possible whilst fitting it all into the smallest box possible is the way to guestimate

I also hope that if you guys have free shipping program/offer...it would be fair if we are who lived abroad could get a discount on the shipping cost
