I charge 60.00 for a full interior and exterior detail minus paint correction and 100 for full size vehicles.
I keep getting asked if I can remove the seats and if its the same price.
I tell them I do charge extra but they change their minds. Should I charge extra or am I wrong for doing so?
And how much extra?

what does full interior consist of? and what is the exterior detail?

you should charge more as it takes up more time and you get a better reuslt

My complete detail starts at $235! Your doing way to much work for no return charge more please!

Full interior is everything being wiped down and shined, carpet and upholstery cleaned and shampoos, thorough vacuum. Exterior is hand washed, wheel wells cleaned, wheels cleaned and shined, windows cleaned, waxed.
I tell them its 30.00 extra but they say the other guy charges 40.00 for everything I do plus remove seats.

I wish I could charge more but in my market everyone is very tight. Not many know about detailing.

You must live in a very small town. I charge $60 for wash and wax alone. You couldn't beat me with a stick to make me do a full detail at $60!!!

How do you apply the wax? Spray? DA?

Sent from my SPH-L710 using AG Online

Of course you should charge more. The time for taking them out plus liability considering you are likely taking out electrical connectors for air bags and possibly other safety equipment built into the seat.

If it's a something's small I apply it by hand. If it's something bigger I use a DA. I personally think it's faster by hand, and waste a lot less product.

Theres always a trade-off between price and quality. it sucks youre dealing with customers that dont see that.

Sure, he does it for $40. Is it actually detailed or did he just clean it? because to me there is a distinct difference between the two.

My interior starts at $60 and I don't/won't pull seats. You can get 99% of garbage under the seats by hand. I'm not running the risk of retorqueing seat bolts, power seats, not to mention the little black box under some of the seats. That $60 is vacuum, machine scrub seats, floor and floormats and vacuum. Along with windows and dash/door treatment. Just did a smokers Camry this weekend, 2.5 hours so $25 an hour and I was showing someone how it was done. No way am i washing it and doing an interior for $60, let alone wax. How many hours are you spending for $60?

yes I would charge extra, it's extra labor and time to take them out, plus every vehicle is different so you have to figure out each time the trick to removing the seats

I spend about 3 hours to 4 max

How can I find out the truth about his details? I would like to find out what all he does for the 40.00 so if its not a good detailing I can at least educate my customers.

Far as I can tell, without some clandestine spy operation (although that would be fun), would be to just ask him as a potential client.

don't be a dbag about it, but inquire to his process and products for a $40 job. Worst case for him is that you walk away.

Or pony up the $40 and see what he does, see what you're up against. Make him prove his skill.

Then when your potential client says 'so and so does this for $40' - you can tell them how your process and products will go above and beyond, and justify your higher price.

And yes, don't charge $60 for int. and ext. I'd start both at $60 (adj. depending on market) and go from there based on the condition of the vehicle. You don't want to be breaking your back and thinning out your wallet.

My friend have actually paid for other detailers to do their cars, then they bring it over an I point out what they paid $25 for and what I would have done. So paying $40 now might bring you thousands in the future, it's not a bad investment in my book. When he's done, take pictures and show your potential customers what they get at $40.

Thanks for that advice! Also I dont have much over head since I'm operating out of my garage and my products that I buy are in gallon size so I save and most will last me 3 months each. So at 15.00 per hour minimum to 20.00 average for full size I'm still seeing a profit. I hit 1000.00 in just 14 days of actual work, the rest have been off days. My expense for supplies came out to about 125.00.
