Should I take on this "fleet?"

Hey guys, I've been in talks with the president of the car club I hang out with. He owns a business with a small fleet of trucks (more than 3 but less than 10, not sure how many, he has some full size vans and some Chevy HHRs). He's been unhappy with his detailer and is looking to possibly try me out to maintain his fleet. He said the other guy did "everything" for $125. When I asked him to clarify what everything meant, he said wash and wax, interior and wipe down the engine.

So for those services, I would normally charge slightly more than that, but this is a chance to get steady work on a fleet, as well as get my name out there to the club so I think it's a good idea. The vehicles are all vinyl wrapped so for the exterior, a wash and spray down with Meticulous Matte should be all that is needed. He doesn't expect a full shampoo of the interior, just a vacuum and wipe down.

I'm leaning towards taking on the job even though it's less money than I would normally get because I've been having trouble getting exposure. What does everyone think??

Go for it, if he misrepresented the deal you can always decline later on but if he's being forthright with the info you can have some steady bread and butter there. As you begin doing the fleet, you'll become familiar with the vehicles and how the particular drivers treat them and you'll no doubt become more efficient at working on them in some time.

I would go for it too. 125$ per vehicle for such a basic package is not bad at all. Depending on size and condition of the vehicles you can Knock out a few in a day, that's pretty good money.

I currently do a full interior, wash, wheels/tires, engine for $80 for a local car dealership. I would usually charge about $120 but he lets me leave my card in the car for the soon to be owner. Plus it's steady work when things are slow.

I like it, can be a hassle sometimes but overall I am gad I'm doing it.

I work for a university and I am the "detail guy" that has to take care of the university's 35 fleet vehicles and I barely get paid over minimum wage. that is why I am going to open my own business on the side. I feel like I am very underpaid for the work I do. I put the detail guy in quotations because sometimes that's how I feel like I am looked at, just the guy who keeps the vehicles clean. if these people only knew what I had to put up with and what goes into keeping a car looking the way I keep it...oh well, life is good and God is great. I cant complain......all of that said I think you should do it. if it doesn't work out you can always get out in the future.

From my "rational" point of view...(there's a chance it may be skewed):

"The distance between any two degrees of uncertainty equals the amount of evidence you would need to go from one to the other".

I take this to mean (Of course: YMMV.):
That this is a natural-way to measure the "spacing" between a person's degrees/levels of confidence.

Good Luck with your decision!!

I would have to see the fleet first and what kind of work do they do. I think thats a little cheap for all they want done.

Thank you all for your input. The owners of the business are all "car guys" and they run this car club in their spare time. I saw some of the fleet and they look to be in very nice shape, so I don't think it would be too much of a "hit" to take on the work at that price. I'm gonna go for it and see if maybe I can't get some pics up at some point :buffing:
