should i tell people I'm raising my prices?

I have recently started a facebook page. with the help of my wife and friends I have gotten 91 likes in 10 days. I post pictures every day and get a decent amount of attention, but I know I need to raise my prices about 25%. question is: would it make sense to go on Facebook and tell people "my prices will soon be going up about 25%, so if you get a service done in the next 30 days you will still get the lower prices". keep in mind, a lot of them already know my prices, so if they call after the raise, they might be upset and not understand the raise. what should I do?
 
Why not create some sort of loyalty program for current customers? Newer customers that are referred can get a tiered pricing?
 
I wouldn't and didn't. I just changed them on my FB page and other sites I advertise on. And touching on your other related thread, there's nothing wrong with being nice but business is business. Charge what you're worth. What I started doing is adjusting my prices based on time. I try to get around $50 an hr - so a 4 hr detail is $200. You'll weed out the customers who don't know a detailer from a corner car wash - or a mechanics garage in your case.

Set up an email distribution through a system like MailChimp to your current customers. Those that sign up you have a log of names and email addresses and they get to keep current pricing. After new pricing is in effect, those referred by them get say a 10% discount on services. Those that don't get the new pricing?

Or you could even get business cards written up with a number which would correspond to a current customer. That way they get to keep their current pricing, get to feel entitled that you not only remember them but they get a discount. Plus they will refer people for you.

No need to tell them, if they can't afford your services than they're not your ideal customer

If you feel bad cause they can't afford you, think about it like this... If you're willing to drop clients paying lower prices, you're making space for the ones who will pay the higher prices for your services

Simple as that.
 
How many unique detail customers have you had in the last 12 months?
 
I don't think you are being rude at all, but I've read a lot of your posts and, well, they aren't the most "friendly". out of 91 likes, most being family and friends, none have been customers. keep in mind, its only been 10 days, and I'm booked nearly that long anyway. I understand your logic, it makes sense, and will keep it in mind.
 
allen: tough to call because up until around the first of July, I was doing 100% dealer work about 40 miles from home. decided to give it up and come back home to try to take this business to the next level. its been a tough summer trying to get my old clients back while getting new ones. have done a somewhat aggressive advertising campaign the past 6 weeks and have gotten about 20 new clients. and more people calling every day.

1. Whenever I raise or change a price of a package or service there is no announcement for the change.

2. Customers who are on a maintenance package are "price locked" forever at whatever price they started at. I freaking HATE when companies change pricing on me for something I'm already consistently giving them money for so I choose not to do it with my business.

You have to ask yourself "What is the benefit of announcing a price change?" Do people even really keep track of your pricing as close as you think they do?

Best advice: honor your current quotes. Other than that people should understand that things change, costs of doing business change, services are improved upon and therefor costs increase accordingly, etc.

What did the advertising campaign consist of?

Were all 20 new clients a result of the ads?

What was the cost per new Customer?
 
I've raised my prices by a lot in the past 1 year with no notice and only a few customers have complained. They where the ones that haven't been back in over a year and I offered then $25 offer to make them happy.
 
Raise them and move on. That's what I have done in my business. Having to remember what customers pay what price because you are only raising it for new customers could be cumbersome.
