I tried using some M205 and a 3" lake country orange cutting pad with my PC to remove some scratches and swirls on my truck. Most of the swirls came out on the parts I used the M205 but some most scratches did not. Would it be benieficial to go with M105 and then the M205 or should I get a completely different product like HD or something else.
Here are some pictures of my hood. Not sure if I can even polish these out.
I only did half the hood as a test and it looks good in one picture but the next day it looked the same as the other pictures. What can I do to correct these marks. Thanks

Only way your going to fix that is with a repaint. You have crows feet (cracks in the clear) and now the cracks are filled with polish so they really stand out.
 
Those look like clear coat problems. I cant remember the name that the term is called. Can you feel them with your finger nail? are they under the clear?

Yes, Ford knows about the problem.

Try taking it to the FoMoCo $tealership. Ford had a problem with the primer.
Actually, not Ford factory but when they subbed out some of the paintwork.
Sadly, it needs to be stripped all the way down to the metal and repainted.
Polishing is a waste of time. There's no polishing out crows feet.
 
Unfortunately i agree with Fast Eddie and the others. Looks like the classic clearcoat fracturing that is now masked by product fill. I hate to say it but what you think looks better will later reveal themselves again. I certainly hope not but from the pictures it looks like classic clearcoat cracking.

And its a Chevy but looks identical to your Ford, Mike.
 
On the polished and unpolished side I can not feel any cracks with my fingernails. I was really hoping it was fixable. But from the sounds of the comments it doesn't seem to be.

Is this because I have neglected the paint on this truck for too long? It's only been about the last 6 months that I have started to actually wash and wax the truck more frequently.
 
Agree with others it looks like crows feet, AKA clear coat failure. Acura had the same issue and some people got it fixed under warranty, not sure about an 8 year old Chevy.
Check the Chevy or GM truck forums and se what other people have done.

That being said that it's not a Ford, the paint system has none the less failed and I would doubt based on the age of the vehicle it's under any sort of warranty or recall. A repaint would be the only way to fix that.

What's really interesting is that my 2003 Nissan Xterra that was never garage kept and detailed twice a year or so over the 12+ years I owned it as I was the original owner looked like this last February 2015 when I finally traded it in.

And it was assembled / some what made in (45% USA components at the time)Smyrna Tn. :props:



 
I have not been taking care of my vehicles like I should be. None of my vehicles are garage kept and now that I live in Las Vegas they get abuse from the sun.

Will it help t at all to polish the hood to help avoid more problems or does it not matter what I do to prevent any further damage?
 
Is there any way to stop it from continuing to cause damage?
