Great Video as usual Mike! Keep up the awesome work you're doing. :dblthumb2:

Re: Video: How To Apply A Carnauba Finishing Wax By Hand With The Straight-Line Technique

Mike.Phillips@Autogeek said:
He used a combination of straight-line motions and overlapping circular motions but mostly straight-line motions towards the end of his demo. It's usually easier to spread a product out using overlapping circular motions because you continually bring you pad back to where the largest concentration of product on the surface is and the from then move it out. In straight-line motions you tend to move across a panel moving away from where you first started, which is where you first touched your pad down and thus usually the highest concentration of product is on the surface.

Does that make sense?

That's the first time I've ever typed out an explanation for why overlapping circular motions work better for spreading a product out versus straight-line motions.

Now I'm confused on what you think is the better way to apply wax.

These videos are turning out great, Mike!

One thing that strikes me though: it's fairly obvious you've spent quite a bit of time around Barry Meguiar -- you have a very similar way of expressing things that I can't help but think rubbed off over the years

Re: Video: How To Apply A Carnauba Finishing Wax By Hand With The Straight-Line Technique

Nice video, one thing if I could recommend anything would be to have lower res versions. Sometimes they take forever to load and buffer. But that has not much to do with this one but all of them. Would be helpful to people with lower broadband connections like I have at my apartment (1.5 Mb/s)

When you copy and paste a quote from another thread it can be helpful to include the link back to the thread so others can read the entire quoted passage in context of the discussion taking place. Just a suggestion but a practice I try to use when I do this on forums. :)

As to your comment, how you apply a wax or paint sealant by hand to your car's finish is personal preference, in this video, as well as this video,

Video: How To Apply A Synthetic Paint Sealant By Hand With The Straight-Line Technique

all I'm doing is explaining the what, why and how of using the Straight-Line Technique which is a technique that's been around long before I was born.

Numerous times on this forum and on any forum I post to when the topic comes up I prefer to use a DA Polisher to apply waxes and sealants. That's my personal preference.

I know some people like and even enjoy applying a quality paste wax by hand as it can be a relaxing way to escape and have some fun in your garage but my personal preference is to apply both waxes and paint sealants by machine.

If I can, I do everything by machine. For times when you can't use machine, then it's important to also possess good techniques for working by hand.

When it comes to applying a wax or paint sealant using an overlapping circular motion or straight-line motions, that comes down to personal preference. I do believe it's easier to spread a product out using overlapping circular motions but you can spread a product out using straight-line motions, you just have to be more focused on the task at hand... no pun intended...

Mike, is there a video for applying a paste wax by machine?

Now thats some good constructive feedback :)

Im not sure of how fast my broadband connection is, but I dont have a problem with the video loading, I have a problem with the video completely stopping somewhere in the middle. It never starts back up and restarting or trying to rewind or fast fowarding it doesnt help. I have yet to see a full version of a video on this site, I get around a 1/4-1/2 of each one.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll pass this onto Yancy...

Keep in mind that right now as I type everyone is working on setting up for Detail Fest, this place is like a Bee's Hive of activity and we won't be able to get to any changes or improvements till after Detail Fest sometime next week but we do appreciate the feedback...

There's a learning curve to everything...

Loads up and starts at a decent speed but goes for few min then stops and have to click play to get it going again for another 30-45 sec or so. If i let it buffer for a few min it gets a little further but stops again. Using firefox btw.

Could it be a lot of people clicking and watching the videos all at the same time?

Plays fine in Chrome

Re: Video: How To Apply A Carnauba Finishing Wax By Hand With The Straight-Line Technique

I was just able to watch the full video of "how to remove swirls" that is posted at the bottom of "today's post's" page. No stalling, stuttering, and breaks in the movie. Im not sure what would cause the problems.

Worked out fine for me with my Firefox 3.6.2, maybe its just people watching it at the same time.
