Thanks for answering with 3401 specific info. I don't have a Flex in my arsenal.... yet!
You are the man Mike and your info is spot on and very valuable to the community! BTW on topic threads are not as fun!
Great job Claude! I prefer to see the hard driven vehicle transformation from a disaster to a "like new" vehicle. Keep up the good work.
:xyxthumbs:Beautiful work! I like the "average Joe" transformations the best. Thanks for sharing.
I chose to answer your question separately because it seems to be a common one. If you have issues with the Menz product, either you work the product too long or have the machine set too high (in speed) OR cleaning is a problem. I normally use 3 pads per vehicle and rotate between them. I clean with a brush every time the pad leaves contact with the panel and swap the pad every panel to get a new cool pad. I load the pad with the product and then apply 3 smallish dots of product. I smear it lightly on the panel to have coverage over the whole section I am about to do and start the machine on high speed with no real pressure and do one quick pass. I then slow down the machine a bit (based on the test spot speed) and work the product. I constantly evaluate my panel with my headlamp as I work and use my Brinkmann and my halogens prior and after finishing the section passes. I work in South Louisiana so the fact that we have high humidity makes for an easier time working the product because it does increase the work time but will have issues if the humidity decreases and work with a "hot" pad (high speed, slow passes, worked too long)
I personally never had luck with hybrid pads and stick to Megs MF cutting and LC flat pads. That is what I am use to and what works for me the best. I've tried different manufacturer and different composition (open/close cell and designs) and always go back to the LC flat pad because I am notoriously hard on my pad and those other ones tend to disintegrate (this was my experience with hybrids and Rupes pads, just recently)
Darn, i just bought a bunch after soliciting in a separate thread " what is the right pad for the flex"I can say that I haven't had the best of luck using hybrid pads with my flex since day one. I have noticed every time I take off a pad ,the Allen screw that locked the LC interchangeable backing plate seems to come loose. Quite aggregating. I think a simple lock washer might have done the trick. I recently noticed also that some of the pads don't last and buff as nice as you would hope. I recently just finished a one step w fg400 and the hybrid white polishing pad. Not only did it not finish down but it tended to soak up the product vary fast into the pad making it a very rough buffing cycle. I was fed up with it and swapped over the LC hydrotech tangerine pad and it was day and night.
IMO coming from someone that has just about tried every pad option for my flex, LC ccs, LC flat, hydrotech, mf, hybrid line, LC pfw, and many more. I will be using the LC hydrotech tangerine pad and crimson and for major defect removal I will use the purple foamed wool.i notice you stated you live in cleveland. How far are you from chesterland.
Awesome topic, as always. Like Mike, I 'already knew' what was to come.
I also like your comments regarding Menzerna Polishes, every topic a new lesson. Thanks for sharing your time with us.
Kind Regards.
Great job on a awesome truck man. In your post you said its not a "super car", it isn't but that is a super truck. That is one high dollar top of the line truck.
Once again great job!
I'm just trying to earn my spot here on the Geek. I enjoy passing on information that I know. Hence the reason I do my write ups the way I do.
Wait till you get your hands on that Flex! I just got my buddy and fellow forum member (530inv aka Jace) on the Flex and he's loving it! :xyxthumbs:
Great turnaround, the truck looks fantastic!! Always nice to see the farm trucks get some love too.

The only threads better than these "average Joe transformations" are the transformations of classic cars like Mike Phillips gets to do all the time. As much as I like a challenge I'll take a cool classic car any day of the week.
I do appreciate this info. I have a doc that i add responses like this (plus Mike's response) to and review them before polishing again.
I live in Cleveland and did my tailgate in the basement because of the weather here so humidity was low. I did get a bit of heat in the pad after a couple passes. I started at 2 to spread the polish then up to 5 with about 10 to 15 lbs of down pressure. Then stayed at 5 on last section pass with no down pressure. My technique has suffered in the past from using too much product so i've been sensitive to that. I've been trying to look for the menz polish to "flash" to clear as an indicator that the polish has diminished fully but i STILL couldn't tell when that is.
Sorry for the thread jack. I've been trying to use all the tips from threads on AGO and the MP video that came with the flex. The flex and hybrid pads are new to me as is the FG400.
I'm just doing this as a personal hobby/interest and there's soooo much more to this than just putting any old pad on any polisher and whatever polish you got lying around. I think i picked a product line thats not really for beginners.
Not giving up on Menz.

Nothing against the high end cars and those write ups, but I find these threads about trashed dd's much more interesting.
Fantastic turnaround on that truck!
Amazing!
Looks great, beautiful transformation! Keep up the good work.
Excellent work and write up. I cringe every time I look at the close up picture of the black paint under the halogen light.
Excellent Work. Looks Fantastic.
Lovely work!
