I have the same blue denim harness, collar and lead for my little boy too.

Any breed at any time is capable of any behavior. They are all animals. Responsible dog ownership is not only training it, feeding it, walking it, and loving it. It is also knowing/recognizing any situation that could potentially lead to a less than favorable outcome and stopping it before it happens.
.

theres quite a bit people dont understand about dogs.
sticking a hand out so they can smell the person. a dog can smell just fine from a distance and can take this as a threat.
leaning over a dog to greet it. a person should picture another human theyve never met 3-10 times taller than the human doing the same. it will feel like a threat.
human staring at a dog the dog doesnt know. that is a threat and could be taken as a challenge for dominance.
that dam squeaky voice that drives me nuts when i hear humans use it. nuff said. :)

how do dogs react to the threat? there is typically body language that says how they are feeling and what could transpire.
one of the most misunderstood body languages is a tail wag. tail wagging only means tail is wagging. HOW its wagging says quite a bit.
if a tail is up, stiff, and wagging- thats flagging and could be game on real quick.

Exactly right, Tom.

90% (maybe more) of people do not understand basic dog behavior.

Besides an erect tail, stillness, lowering of the head, and ears pinned back is a sign of fear/aggression. A dangerous combination.

And the squeaky, excited human voices you mentioned drive me nuts as well.

If you study a dogs head, you can quickly recognize the order of importance of a dogs senses.

*Nose is first and foremost. That is why it is at the very front of any dog. Dogs can recognize or get the scent of things up to a half mile away in the perfect settings. That is by FAR their first clue to anything happening in their world.

*Eyes are farther back, because sight is important, but secondary to scent.

*Ears are the furthest back. Hearing is not as important to a dog as it is to us.

i think i posted this girl, nyla, a while ago. shes at a rescue i volunteer at. i broke her out for the week. she had a very active day today. :)

We had some heavy horizontal rain on this afternoon's walk, but it passed quick, they don't care, as long as they get their walk

Bought Rocky a new platform/scratching post. He uses the scratching post part, but won't sit up on the platform, even if I throw treats up there, he just reaches up and hooks them with his claws.

Anyone need some shoelaces?
Apparently whatever I was eating smelled good (I don't remember what it was).

I was just digging through old pics tonight and remembering our beloved dogs who are now in dog heaven.

Top pic is my wife with our first dog we ever had together, Harley. He was old and on chemo in that pic. (Note the shaved patches on his front legs. Pic was circa 2009.)

Bottom pic was our 2nd dog, Koa (left) and our 3rd one we just had to put down due to old age on October 10th, Opal. (Right).

Dog ownership is awesome, but too short. :/
