Hi,

I have been building show cars and motorcycles for 40 years and have never seen a shine like the one when our local Showroom Polishing System representative did my black Camaro that my wife and I show. They have a sealer that makes the black pop that looks like a black mirror. Do you know what they use, and is there anything I can buy over the counter that will do as good a job?

leveling the paint is where the shine and clarity come from.

so buy a DA, some pads, polishes and practice?

FWIW, my 8 year old black paint is damn near flawless and protected by 22ple vx1 pro. I have yet to see another paint look better.

It works as good by hand because the detailer left me some for touch up.

So what is your question then? If you have some it would seem you are all set.

The company seems to be a service provider, rather than a detailing chemical manufacturer, so likely they are using an available product. Here at Autogeek you have a wide range of excellent products that I'm sure will meet or exceed the performance of whatever secret sauce Showroom Detailers used.

Awesome idea pimping a non-AGO product with your 1st post!

What are the top rated sealers? All I have is enough touch up to do one fender.

Maybe you would be kind enough to ask him what he used? The product that has ever impressed me the most was Four Star Ultimate Paint Protection. I have yet to use the coatings, but I am very interested how they would stack-up against most sealants in terms of looks. HD Detailing mentioned he used 22ple's coating, maybe he can compare its appearance to that of a sealant's? HD Detailing was right though, most of your gloss will come from a flattened surface. If you were impressed just by applying to a non-polished surface, imagine if it had been polished first.

PS as many have said, and I'll post this up, just because it shines doesn't mean the paints swirl free or perfected. I did this Jetta last year. Blackfire Total Polish and Seal topped with Black Ice. It shines and reflects like crazy but it was still full of swirls, they didn't want to invest the $$$ in a total makeover. None the less they were happy with the results.

Sorry, but, nope. Correctly polished paint will always look better to a trained eye.

And to illustrate what HD is saying, this is correctly polished before any protection, LSP, Sealat etc was added. And you can't get these results by hand.
