Sick, Tired, and Sore - what is your product of choice?!?!?!?

I'm not a big guy but I could shave off a few pounds (last time I weighed in I was at 194).

I began a cardio program over the last few weeks. Began off at 2 miles a day and have now increased it to alternating between 2 and 3 miles per day at under 8 mins a mile. The weight falls off. Plus, it tightens all of the muscles around your core.

I know you don't have the time to do cardio but even going for a mile jog every day is better than nothing.

Eating smaller meals throughout the day is the way to go. It makes your metabolsim faster as your body expends more energy knowing it will have more food later. This is why you should always eat breakfast!! It jump starts your metabolism for the day.

Even doing pushups and situps every day will help a lot to get rid of the belly fat and tighten your core. Not to mention, building that upper body for buffing! LOL

But yeah, cardio is the quickest way to shed pounds. I know you don't have the time but no other way has worked for me.

Hi Anthony...

-I didn't have any weight-gain problems until after reaching my "second-childhood".
Been getting tougher each Spring shedding some of my "Winter Coat".

-I've discovered I still prefer the Basics, like sit-ups (I'm up to five already!!).

I went from 250 to 208 right now. Took me about 4 months could have been 3 but holidays came in. Staying healthy in any business is one of the most important things Tony! So step it up man there's no such thing as not having time. I'm not on my pc but I tell you some simple tips real quick. Loosing weight is easy as pie seriously LOL . As for protein shakes I recommend Optimum Gold, at least a gallon of half gallon of water a day. Go to your local pharmacy get you some centrum vitamins, get yourself some fish oil capsules. Figure out your calories that's maintains your weight or increasing. Then figure out your calories deficit and this will tell you what to eat and what not. Il get back with more advice later!

I lost 38 lbs. on a low carb diet, but eventually quit that diet. I went back to my old habits and hit 276 lbs. I had a decision to make. That decision went much like Tundra 10's comments with some tweeks here and there.

Tundra 10...Dead on.

Here are my tweeks.

1. Water, water, and more water. In ice, first thing in the morning after going to the bathroom and before breakfast (before all meals, but especially breakfast, then inbetween meals). A big glass or two before breakfast, preferably cold...I like mine ice cold. I down it in the morning faster than you can say scat.

2. Drink only water...ONLY WATER!! Most often ice cold, or as cold as tolerable.

3. High fiber 30-40 grams per day. Fiber cereals were my only source besides veggies and fruits. I used the cereal as breakfast, and for various muffin recipes and protien drinks I made.

4. Only good carbs.

5. Eat 5-6 times a day. Servings that will not cover the palm of your hand. If it's low in bad carbs, high in protein and fiber, then calorie count was irrelevant to me.

6. Raw almonds, pistachio's, strawberries, mostly blueberries.

7. Exercise.

8. Did I mention water...how about more water (again cold), but this time before bed.

The cold water serves two purposes.
A. It wakes up your metabolism. Your metabolim has to come alive to warm that water up. It shocks your system. Your body begins to burn calories on its own this way. It's free weight loss. Of course never do this after any kind of exertion, only when your system is inactive. Drink it the way you normally would during the day, just more of it.

B. It fill you up before breakfast and each meal so you don't eat too much.

Combine that with Tundra 10's comments and you've got the making for success.

How do you know you're drinking enough water? Your urine will turn clear (as in will not change color of toilet water), and will have zero smell. I was easily drinking 2 to 2 1/2 gallons a day, though I was working and walking/sprinting 4-7 miles a day (until I got plantar fascitis in my foot). I went from 276 to a scrapping 197 lbs.

I did not reach my goal because of the foot injury. In fact, I had intensive foot therapy (while on crutches for 5 months) to keep from having to have surgery. I could hardly walk. As a result I (got board while going to college) gained weight again. I'm up to 260 because I went back to eating the wrong crap and drinking soda, which I hadn't drank in 4 years...it only took me 7 months to lose that weight though with the exercise and diet I've laid out for you.. I've been released to do anything I want. So, I'm going back on that lifestyle and will begin walking, then as time goes on, walking/sprinting starting tomorrow. My regimine will be exactly as before.

Good luck!! Goal is 185.

Almost 40. Why do you ask?

[Disclaimer: As you know I wasn't the one asking this question]

But...I must remark:
Must be nice to be young and impetuous, Bill.

Also:
You're many years away from having to worry about the dreaded:

OLD MAN'S BUTT!!!!

:D

I'm no marathoner, but I seem to stay slim by drinking plenty of green tea and only eating self prepared meals on the weekdays. Keep up my energy by taking mens one a day energy vitamin.

I was just curious as to why he asked that.

I have asthma. I grew up not knowing most of it is food related. I grew up playing all sort of sports, settling on baseball. I played from the time I was 5 until my second year of college.

The entire time I was growing up I never had any wind to run. Even in high school I had a hard time running whatchmacallits...baseline to the foul line and back to base, then base to the top of the key and back to base, then from base to half court...you get the idea. I could do it, but never without my lungs hurting and coughing up a hairball. Same thing in college. I could sprint maybe 100 yards, but could never jog 200 hundred or more.

Fast forward to age 36-38. I worked 10-12 hour days packing steel, using a shovel, raking concrete, etc., etc. I'd come home and spend 2 - 2 1/2 hours a night walking as fast as I could. When the weight started coming off, I'd walk then sprint as far as I could then return to a fast walk. At first my lungs killed me...along with the usual hairballs. After losing 35 pounds is when the miles started racking up each night though I never jogged. It kills my back for some reason. I can handle the walking/sprinting, but not the jogging.

NOTE: Working hard long days as a construction worker didn't help me lose any weight. It took additional desire and tremendous effort exercising every night.

Long story short it wasn't until I hit the 215 mark that my lungs cleared up completely. I think the weight, and the foods I was allergic to played a huge roll in my having hardly any wind to run when I was young.

At 197 lbs. at 38 years old I had never felt so good. I will not live in misery the rest of my life. It felt great being lean and mean to not want to go back to that.

Most of my early weight gain came from depression. Danged if that stuff won't kill a person...it sure will if you let it.

After hurting my foot, and going through a period of depression, I began to put weight back on. I did some heavy lifting (working) a few days ago and was completely out of breath inside of 3 minutes working outside in cold temps. Temperature, especially cold air, has always killed my lungs. It's like swallowing a ball of fire.

I'm now 260 way out of shape and can't breathe, but that's all about to change. My goal is 185 before my 40 birthday on July 27. I've done it twice now. I'm certain I'd have remained exercising and on the regime that Tundra and myself laid out above had it not been for the foot injury. I'll be a little smarter this time...

...this time I won't be walking and running 4-7 miles a day in steel-toe work boots. That's right, steel toe work boots. That's not be tough, it's being stupid I admit. I'm just as determined this time around.

FUNX, up to 5 sit ups, that's hilarious! You got me laughing out loud with that one. And I don't do that very often. Thanks for that you don't know how bad I needed I laugh today. I've spent all morning fighting with some idiot Doctors that I was referred to. I actually filed a complaint to the CA Medical Board. Anyway keep 'em comin.

Lot of that going around.

look into the movie called, "Fat, Sick , and nearly Dead" guy does a juicing fast for 1 or 2 months and drops weight and is crazy healthy afterwards, takes a lot of dedication tho. Just an idea

I have one of those fancy juicers and used it religiously for a few months - and I can attest to it working! Did it to feel better and healthier at the time.... only I am never home to juice anymore :/

Dolcediet.com

Im using this for my weight cut right now and i feel great.

What weight do you fight at?!?! What is your record?

If you like pears, they are a little trick I learned from my nutrition professor. All fruit has a chemical in it that gives you a full feeling, reason why most people could eat 6 doughnuts but couldnt eat 5 apples. However, pears have more of this chemical than any other fruit. WHen you are hungry eat a pear it will full you up. Protein shakes are great to, especially when mixed with a lot of water

Good advice man - thanx:dblthumb2:

NO offense Anthony, but if you have gained that much weight you obviously have been eating. It's a matter of looking at the calories in the food you're eating and adjusting that to what you actually need to achieve, then maintain, the weight you want to be at.

LOL, no offense at all my friend - My main issue with eating is being out and about at jobs - picking up fast food, going 10 hours not realizing I hadn't eatin and picking up more fast food, then getting home late at night and deciding that I would like a few drinks after a really hard day at work, then eating a crap load before bed lol.

Good luck, get that extra weight off.Pick up a five gallon bucket of water, pretty heavy try carrying it around all day. That is what your doing with the extra weight, tough on the heart and joints.

Never thought of it that way - well I feel bad for my joints lol :/

Martini's...shaken not stirred. Will temporarily cure all ills.

Another reason for the weight gain :bolt:

How do you gain 100lbs without eating much and still exorciseing (work)?

Well the extreme of training ridiculously and eating perfect while training - to no excercise at all other than work and playing with kids and eating horribly is definitely what happened :/

Side note, talk to the wife about helping out with "that", as it is almost as good of a caloric burn rate as swimming. :xyxthumbs: 5 nights per week is a good work out schedule
'Come on dear, you will be helping with making me health again, thought that is what you wanted '....

LOL - That would be awesome if 1) The baby didn't take my spot in the bed and 2) I had the energy after these 15 hour work days for that lol! One day the earth will shake again

Too funny man!

Bananas and carrots are excellent for you and can be a very quick snack while working, celery because it is rumored to actually burn more calories then what you are taking in because it has such a high-water %.).
You can lose weight eating celery STICKS because it requires more calories to chew them than they contain. This does not hold as true for chopped celery, and especially not cooked celery. The amount of fiber provides enough resistance to your jaw muscles to cause yourself to burn more calories than you get when eating the whole stick.

From this shot 2 or 3 years ago (165) to a shot from today (250) MAJOR difference :/

Time to change that around and get healthy again - thanx for everyone's advice!

Anthony,

1. Get a pedometer and wear it all day long. Aim to get 10,000 steps every day. With how hard you work, you might already be at that number.

2. Visit a Registered Dietitian. Work with that person to come up with a nutritional plan that will work with *your* day to day life and busy schedule.

I lost 17 pounds by doing this alone! Not the cardio but eating several small meals a day. It works ! :props:

Try bringing healthy snack foods to work with you . I do this and eat while I work .It takes no time at all . I like toasted soynuts and peanuts and brown rice cakes .
