This is probably my 13th one. The others are either torn apart or ended up like this.

I had this happen with the LC 4" pads for my PC. The backing just got hot and pulled right off. That sucks!

When the hook and loop material comes off the foam, technically the pad didn't fail, the adhesive failed.

Lake Country, like most pad manufactures use the best technology has to offer when it comes to something that will bond one type of material, (the cloth hook and loop material), to another type of material, (foam).

Normally, the times you'll see the adhesive fail is when the adhesive is exposed to,

Heat -Heat is generated over time with the pad in use.

Mechanical Action - This is the motions being produced by the tool, the oscillating tools produce the most violent action and combined with heat and time, the adhesive will give up.

Chemical Interaction - This can be any of the liquid chemicals you're using with the pad and as they seep into the foam that interact with the adhesive and combined with heat and time work to cause the adhesive to fail.

I cant see your picture but i have problem to with these pads..The center of the pad is falling down only after 3-4 panels

How do you clean them? How long do you let them dry?

I use the Flex 3401 and HT pads almost exclusively. From what I've read people that have his issue seem to not allow their pads to completely dry all the way through before using them again. The moisture possibly turning to steam and the steam weakening the adhesive. I did have that exact problem with (1) flat white LC pad once for no reason that I could find but I've never had it with the HT pads. I have the top of the cyan HT pads wear out quickly but I don't think I've ever had the delamination issue on the bottom.

Not sure if this is really the problem or not but I always allow my HT pads to dry for at least 3 days before using them again or stowing them just to be safe.

I have to agree with Corey here. I don't think a lot of people who are seeing the backing come off are letting them dry. The soonest I have used one after a thorough cleaning was 24 hours, and that was after it had sat indoors with a low amount forced air blowing through it. So far, I haven't had this issue. Now, the rest of the pad is another story. I have a few that I have only used a couple of times that looks like the pad is coming apart from itself around the rim.

I too have experienced this with the HT pads. I quit buying them and switched to Buff & Shine pads. I have not altered my cleaning method nor how I use them (speed, machine, etc) and I have not had a single failure. I'll leave the conclusion to the higher-ups...

today I used a lc flat- white with xmt 360 . when I was done with pad and cleaning it I noticed a pinky size knot in the pad , between foam and loop . and then the middle of pad felt like it was comic apart. I actually cut this know out and I'm guessing it is adhesive . the pad got too hot and melted the adhesive and then formed this hard knot . blame it on myself . was using a gg on speed 5 .

I've had this happen twice and both times with my Flex 3401. What strikes me as odd, I've never had this happen on my rotary...

The next time it happens I have some 3M spray adhesive I'm going to try. It's not that I'm cheap, I'd just like to see if this would be a good fix and not throw away a perfectly good pad...

Same problem here with the Ht's...I like the cutting ability of the pads but the durability just isn't working for me...not sure why might be me.

So is there really no way I can fix these problems? I tried 3M 77 adhesive spray and somehow, it doesn't work well with foam.

I am always careful when I remove the pad from the backing plate. I get my fingers in between the backing plate and the velcro on the pad and I pull from the bottom side of the pad with my fingers so I am not pulling on the foam but the entire pad. Keep scooting you fingers in tight to the backing plate as you pull so you are always supporting the pad velcro.

If you can, allow the pad to cool for a minute before removing

My HT pads have held up fine doing it that way.

After reading positive comments about the thin hydrotech pads I ordered a couple of the cyans from ag and tried them out this weekend. The first one flew apart on the second panel I used it on. The second one I finished the car with. I was using 105 and griots polisher and cleaning on the fly. I am not sure if the first one was bad or what but I was very disappointed that the pad failed after such a short amount of use.

there are special adhesives that have to work with foam. if there is an issue with a pad we make, I will stand behind it. I have about 300 pads at home I use and have had little issue with the adhesive with them.
