We're taking a blast to the past by detailing this 1985 GMC Rally STX Van!

This 1-ton work van with that retro look belongs to J. Scott Heiniger who uses this custom van for his Tile & Marble company.

A hotrodder at heart, instead of going the normal route like most businesses and buying a WHITE work van Scott searched for this 1-ton GMC Rally Van and since purchasing it has upgraded the engine and drivetrain.

Then he had it painted and while it looks pretty good there's still room for some improvement. So we're going to do and

Extreme Van Makeover!

See you here at 5:00pm!

Here's a few more pictures Paul took of the Van at last Saturday's Cars & Coffee car show with Wayne Carini....

You can see this van has a metallic finish but it's a tick low on the shine side....

I'll be there Mike.

Count me in

Are you going to drive or walk Robert? If you`re driving can I catch a ride please? Tim.

Good to hear guys... I don't mind buffing this Van out by myself but it will go a lot faster with a half dozen polishers all buffing at the same time.

The owner is bringing one of his buddies so that's two more guys to lend a hand and last night at Lew's Crew Car Show I had 3-4 other guys that want to join us and learn how to learn the art of machine polishing paint.

We're actually going to start around 4:00pm as we're going to use the Foam Gun to give the van a suds bath first.

:)

Mike:
Will you be wet sanding on van, & is there still room for one more person?

Hi Charlie,

The answer is "no". We will not be sanding on the van. It will be here at 4:00pm because we're going to wash it with a foam gun.

After that I'll TEST it to see if it's single stage or basecoat/clearcoat. It looks like single stage. If it is then we certainly don't want to sand a single stage metallic paint job as it will mess it up.

If it's basecoat/clearcoat then we still won't sand it as this is a WORK truck not a show car and here in South Florida you need all the paint you can get to hold up to the harsh sun and wet weather.

Sanding the paint removes paint and that means LESS paint for a WORK truck to hold up over time.

I'm with you on sanding to make it look great but I also understand from the owner's point of view that after paying for the paint job you want it to L-A-S-T as long as possible.

I'd love to have you join us Charlie!

:)

Have been waiting for the Extreme Makeovers to return, unfortunately
