What can I say but the paint on my buddy Jay's 1990 Corvette is

SUPER TRASHED!

But here's the good news... We're going to fix it here at Autogeek next Thursday night.

Now the paint looks good in this shot...

But here's what it really looks like using Mr. Sun to reveal the true condtion...

This Corvette has the original clearcoat finish on it and this era of clear is known for being very hard when it comes to defect removal. So chances are good we're going to attack this with rotary buffers and something...

So who's with me?

Jay has already washed this car and then chemically decontaminated the paint using Iron X at our last Autogeek Car Wash Day....

Here's Jay spraying down the original paint with Iron X

There's not a lot of iron contamination but that's actually a good thing. Iron X is one of those product you want to use but you don't actually want to see massive contamination as that means your paint has been corroding.

This was the first time Jay had seen and used a Foam gun....

Jay's new favorite car washing tool.

So while she'll be clean when she gets here we'll still have to mechanically decontaminated the paint.

We start at 5:00pm and I'll see if Nick has anything new for us to test out...

Hey a quick message to all my regulars....

Keep in mind you're always welcome to invite one of your car buddies that has been listening to you talk about these car projects you work on all the time.

Newbies are welcome!

We'll show them how to wheel a car!

Man that Vette is hammered! Can't wait to see it finished!

I need to move over there to get in on some action! Being couped up here in Germany is driving me nuts!

This topic makes me call my thursday's poker night boring... how I wish I was there.

Wish good luck and an enjoyable day for everyone.

'Hey Jay', looking good on that foam task man, I suppose you got Xtreme Foam in that bottle? I've done that so many times, just looking at your pictures reminds me that 'minty' smell.

Wish you could share some pics for us to enjoy while in progress.

Counting down.

Kind Regards.

I will go meet you guys one day Mike, I can only imangine the fun I'd have with you guys.
When I say one day I mean it, I'll fly over, stay a week and take in some Florida sun:)
I must check the airlines to see what a round trip from Louisiana to AG headquarters and back would cost, I know whatever the price it will be worth it:)

Looks pretty good in the shop, but yeah, white can hide lots of nasties under certain lighting, and then standing 10' away. It does "look white", and I'm sure it would after an Iron-X, and a good dog bath.

My 1997 Tahoe exhibited about the same amount of bleed, and reckon it probably should, considering there was 15-1/2 good years of iron accumulation on the paint.

It looks sort of bad, and then again not so bad, but of course one cannot properly judge unless there in person.

I'm going to enjoy seeing how this one turns out, your processes, and what final LSP products you choose. Bet the Pinnacle GL Coating would look great.

Hey Mike, question regarding one of the pictures I saw of the Iron-X decontamination of the paint... I saw that he got the product on his white soft top and there was iron because the Iron-X turned purple. Was there any ill effects of getting Iron-X on the top? It's not the type or product (at least in my mind, which, of course, could be wrong) that you would want to get on a white cloth material.

Also, since we did see a reaction when the Iron-X encountered the top, what is the consequence of having iron contamination on a soft top and how would one go about decontaminating it?

Thanks for your continued help! :dblthumb2:

Hope your being allowed more than 4 hours on this one, Mike! Lol!

Man cant wait to get there. Been jonesing for a makeover for months count me in.

You would be amazed what the "A TEAM" can do in a short period of time with 10 rotary's and two city blocks of products. We did two trashed out vehicles in one night a couple of weeks ago.The music these machines create and the focus (Me excluded) coupled with our team leader is nothing short of magic.(Plus there is PIZZA...YEA!!!) :buffing::hungry:
