Sign-up - 1999 Trans Am Extreme Makeover!

Date: Thursday, November 8th, 2012

Jay's new classic...
This is my buddy Jay's recent purchase, it's a Anniversary Edition 1999 Trans Am with the 6-Speed Hurst Shifter.

He's ordered a new graphics kit so our job will be to remove the graphics, buff out the paint and the apply the new graphics.

The body and paint are all intact just dull and filled with water spots and swirls...

Close-up next to the hideaway headlight bucket -

Tip: Use a body line to help your camera lens to focus on the paint.

Beautiful car! Very interested to see how you tape this car off. Also... what product line do you anticipate using?

SIGN ME UP!! :buffing:

A 2002 Red T/A was my high school partner in crime. I'm still in love with all F-bodies.

Dang I wish I was close by. I'd help in a heart beat.

We're removing the graphics and replacing them with new graphics.

Removing the old graphics and then we can buff out the paint.

Products? I try to match the owner to something they can use to do up-keep.

Mike,
Sign me up. I helped out with the orange blazer earlier this year.

Man I wish I was closer. I have an arctic white 2002 ws6 that I plan on compounding/polishing here very soon. Very curious to see which approach you take. Lots of areas on the front end need to be done by hand, that's why I'm scared.

I had a '75 TA when I was in high school...loved that car. I'm too far away but if you ever have a project in the New Orleans area, I'll be there.

We have some new cool products to help out with the intricate areas...

Hey guys, just wanted to thank you all again for your help with my second project of the year! I just purchased this car, it is a 1999 30th anniversary Trans Am one of 292 built with the Hurst shifted six speed and traction control.

I was not really in the market to buy another car but this car is so rare I could not pass it up without making an offer. The car was sitting in the weeds in a backyard in Orlando since 2009!

The interior is also trashed so just purchased a complete reproduction interior kit for the car as well. If this car turns out anything like my K/5 Blazer did I am going to be one happy camper, if anybody can bring this car back to life I know its the guys at Autogeek!

Hey Mike, you are the best friend a car guy could have and to show you my appreciation I have a gift for you in my garage.... a brand new NOS Chevy C-K series dash in the box, I know you can use it for your truck project, stop by the house anytime to pick it up.

Thanks Jay

Count me in as well. Sounds as though we will have 2 celebs. in the house that night.:dblthumb2:

3+ years of South Florida rain and intense sunshine... this will be a challenge...

Wow!

Thanks Jay!

Count me in as well.

You're on the list Tim!

swirls... 95% of the vehicles at SEMA this year looked like this. Swirl City, but without the water spots.

We will patiently await the cloned version of Mike Phillips so the world will be rid of poorly and incorrectly polished cars.Sort an Army of polishing ants.:nomore:

Mike count me in for this one.

I have you on the sign-up list, the first thing we need to do is remove the graphics, I'll have a hair blow dryer and a heat gun here and ready to use.

I took some pictures of swirls out cars in the SEMA threads and actually have a video showing some horrendous swirls in a Camaro on display in the sun outside.

I didn't get a chance to walk much of the show and take pictures but of the cars I did see I would have to say the "paint" that is the finish quality of the paint is improving every year at not only SEMA but at the big auctions and even car shows and I personally attribute this to the rate of quality how-to information being disseminated on discussion forums like this one.

If I could... I would... at least for the special interest vehicles...
