silver cars :(

IMO, nothings more elegant than a silver Aston.

^^I can't help but notice that this is a usual theme of yours^^

However:
Here are a couple of what I consider to be
reasonable-reasons for owning "Silver":

•My Wife says she has never felt more like
"popping-in and driving" any vehicle...as she
has with "The Silver One":
-Says it reminds her of her favorite Dior lip-gloss:
Glitter Top Coat---the clear one with the silver sparkles.

And...How does that saying go?
{I believe it goes like this}:
"Sometimes Silver linings have clouds..."

DANG! That looks really good!

Yep...
Nice looking Aston; but, for me:
that's not my idea of a nice looking
surface to be driving it over, and onto...
just to take a picture.

I agree with what a few of the above posters said.

This is my first silver car and it's been great. It doesn't show dirt like other colours but it makes imperfections near impossible to find. There should be tonnes of scratches in my paint but no matter how hard I try finding them I cannot !

I think with silver all you can really do is get the clarify and reflection, maybe a bit of gloss. Personally i'd prefer this to any other colour.

I think part of the major problem with silver paints is that they often lack much in the way of metallic added, and when they do, it is a very fine metallic

At that point, the paint looks more "grey" than silver, lacks pizazz and deep luster.

I seen that many years ago with a 1976 Silver Camaro I owned, had a small fender bender with it, the dealer shop had the car looking quite bad and two-toned.

So, I took it to a custom paint shop, and had the entire car re-sprayed in the exact same color, but the painter added a small 4oz can of coarse silver metallic to 1 gallon of uncut Dupont Lucite Acrylic Laquer.

That and a whole bunch of clear laquer as the top coat, and that paint job was very stunning, especially in lower light conditions, as most silver paint usually does look better in such.

The paint then had what was once referred to in custom circles as a "Flip-Flop" paint finish, accentuating every little curve and body line with amazing differences of color hue.

This is what so many modern silver paints applied by factory seem to lack.

@Bob. Yes it's true. I make no bones about it. Ever since I developed an appreciation for swirl free paint, I enjoy being able to easily observe it, along with the pleasurable challenge of maintaining it.

Those 2 factors don't seem to reach the same level on silver or white paint. I'm lucky to have an emerald green hood, otherwise I'd probably be a bit less satisfied with my own vehicle. Light metalic green is ok, but how great is it really if it looks almost as good when it's dirty as when it is clean?

I wish my whole car was this color.

Silver looks great at the right angle. M205 and M21 combo on it.

Bfwd and wfdgps always works wonders on my silver suby. It's all in the prep work.

same..i have a silver car and it never has the "pop" or character of a black car, on the brightside, you dont see swirls on them as much!

Wash
Clay bar
Hd speed polish with orange lake country pad.
Liquid collinite wax.
Paint was well maintained to start off with. Some deep scratches got wet sanded. Orange pad and hd speed over sanding spots did the trick.

Different strokes for different folks.. But I'll never understand how detailers/Autogeeks willingly set out to buy white or silver vehicles. To me that's like being part of the league, but deciding not to play. Lol

@OP. I miss this beautiful SUV. Unfortunately it was traded in for a white Kia. [not by my choice] I feel your pain.

Silver is the best color in my book. Hides paints defect very well and hides dirt as well. Might not have the insane depth of black or the breath taking awe of Red but it's nice enough when freshly cleaned and waxed.

For me, the less I have to work on my personal car, the better. That's why I purchased a Silver colored car this summer.

I owned a Titanium Silver BMW 3-series for a long time. I found the secret to that paint was a carnauba wax. While it didn't last very long, the wax provided a look that made the car look like it was glowing from the inside out. Klasse Sealant Glaze also looked really good, but something about the carnauba....

I'll also add that not all silver's are equal. In my eyes a good silver has a high metallic content and is a little darker. The BMW Titanium Silver, silver paint from Bob's Vette, the silver used on the Chevy SS, and the silver found on Mercedes are good examples. The right mixture of ingredients really makes for a great combo. Other silver's like BMW's Glacier Metallic are very pale in color and the metallic content is low with very tiny particles. In my eyes, this leads to a silver which has very little "pop" and often looks more like a pale gray no matter how much love you pour into it.

My car isn't silver, Audi calls it quartz gray but it looks pretty much silver to me. It is hard to find any defects in the paint except in the complete dark and the light from a security light.

Come spring I plan to polish with a polishing pad and SF 4000 and finish with a finishing pad and 3800 topped with WG uber coating or if i find one that has more of a glassy look.

Right now it is topped with Essence and reload. Depending on light and angle it can look better (darker) or just silver and not as good.

My car is basically silver. Came to it from a black car and like others have said, it looks great to me and I enjoy how clean it looks between washes as well as hiding defects.

It was polished with M205 and is coated with CQUK.

The paint looks awesome in some lighting/angles:

and even in not perfect light it is still pretty pleasing to me

Looks wonderful in the sun.

So yeah, it's not like other colors that swim or pop with exuberance but I still think if properly polished and cleaned it will stand out.

I found this forum a year ago when I bought my 2015 Silver Mustang. That poor car has been polished and waxed several times over with several different products purchased from AG in search of the ultimate "pop". While I have the car looking infinitely better than the day I picked it up, it isn't much of a challenge.

Knowing what I know now and with how much I enjoy taking care of the car, I would have gone for the ruby red. I lust after this one...

I totally agree with this. I love carnauba on my silver. The clearest its ever looked was after a friend gave me a sample of Zymol Royale. Amazing clarity:dblthumb2:
