Is it me... or does silver paint only look glossy in the shade?

In the full sun here in Florida, my classic silver metallic paint doesn't wanna show off any gloss or depth, but in the shade, nice gloss and depth.

Silver is an odd color.

I have a silver car as well and I've been waxing and polishing since day one and it always seems to have a nice glossy color. I guess it just depends on the make and factory paint

My car is a 2013 Scion tC and I've done a full detail on it since I've had it, about 3 months now. The detail included claying the paint, light polish, CG EZ creme glaze and 2 coats of Menzerna Power Lock. The polishing did add some depth and gloss, but it only seems to show in the shade or in the late afternoon as the sun is making its way down.

Silver can be tough in this regard. For your shade, you may want to try something like Wolfgang DGPS, or simply top Power Lock with a carnauba. Either will give a bit more "wetness" to the appearance.

FWIW...you can always be thankful you don't have GM's silver birch (very popular on last-generation trucks & SUV's). Not enough metallic to pop, not enough color to really offer gloss. The other end of the spectrum, of course, is Mercedes' brilliant silver - it's always a pleasure working on that color.

LOL.

I've considered topping Power Lock with Color Lock, Menzerna's new carnauba wax, but I've kinda let go of carnauba waxes. If I did start using them again, I'd go with Color Lock for sure.

Now I've got ideas and purchases going off in my head, lol. Little explosions of OCD. :)

AHH Silver. It definitely has its time of day yes? If the suns up it has to be at your back to see some sick gloss on your hood. Right now I have my car polished with menzerna 4500

and topped with 2 coats Zymol Royale (given to me by a generous member) . Its very glossy indeed. I find that high polish topped with caranuba (Migliore Competizione,Zymol

Royale, or Zymol Glasur have given me the best gloss. Good luck

I'm pretty lucky as my CRZ is Storm Silver Metallic, a darker silver but somewhat in the middle of the silver spectrum and I have to say, thanks to DG and now recently Collinite #845, its stunning in almost every light and for that I say thanks to the AG community for all the reviews on the product lines I've picked to use on my car!

I'll be posting pics in the next day or so but man does UPGP and my silver Acadia get along so well. Wow!

That's some serious depth and gloss on the Challenger, but then again, it's in the shade, lol. Silver just doesn't seem to be "sun friendly". At night I can actually see a few straight line scratches on the hood, but in the sun, I couldn't find them to save my life. My slight OCD still wants to poilsh the hood some more, lol.

I know what your mean. Mercedes silver is great. I specifically had my BMW wheels re-powder coated to mimic Mercedes "brilliant silver" they use on some of their wheels. Made the BMW silver look grey.

I'm having trouble with this color. I'm like blowing money chasing down product to get the wet look. People telling me to stop chasing it cause its a DD but I at least need to know that I can make it work. It also have to do with certain silver too i think. In the sun I can definitely see blue flakes flashing when walking by but no wet look. It's shiny and bright but no wet. Then again, I'm waiting for more stuff to come.

Bright was the word I was looking for. In the sun, my silver paint is like super bright. It tends to reflect the majority of the light hitting it and almost looks as if it lacks depth like a dark colored paint. In the shade, however, my paint has a deep wet look. I put in maybe 5 hours of light polishing with a Lake Country Hydro Tech polishing pad and Meg's Ultimate Polish and there's a big difference in shine and gloss and the overall smoothness of the paint. I may buzz my hood soon because I have a few light clear coat scratches that are only visible under a street light at night. I may even just forget about them. If I never told you they were there, you probably wouldn't know the difference.

Silver can be a tough color to get depth on. Ive had no such luck with depth, but I have however got the wetness look down on my wifes car.

Did you actually buy it? Is there any serious difference in quality to justice the price??

I definitely didn't buy it but was fortunate to have a member send me a sample

Is there a difference? Thats the question of all questions for waxes. Not having bought the wax myself I have nothing vested and don't feel a need to say it was great to validate

my purchase. I can honestly say when I use it I get the best candied gloss of any other wax I've tried so far. :dblthumb2:
