I am currently running the GG 6", with a 6.5" pad. I am looking into the 5.5" pad set-up for the future, but more importantly I am looking into getting the smaller GG. That left me thinking, what is the smallest set-up I could run on my 6"? I was looking into the small one for bumpers, sail panels, and headlamp restorate, as well as interiors. I figure I would have to decrease the speed but it got me wondering...

You can use both the 3" and 3.5 DA backing plates. Just make sure to use the appropriate size pad that will accommodate the velcro aka hook and loop. Just make sure not to run the DA on the higher speed setting for long periods of time which will heat up the pad and prematurely make it fail...

agrees with the visitor another option would be "The Hernandez Polisher "

I'm using 3 and 5" backing plates with mine. 3.5 and 4" pads work great.

2 7/8" is the smallest DA BP that I have seen

The 2" ones you see are usually 1/4" shaft and are compatible with air tools

Flex is coming out with 2" and 1" BP for the new PE-8 Rotary

These could be used on a DA with a Rotary adapter

If you do this, be aware that the hook & loop on rotary BP's is usually different and can overheat pads designed for use with a DA BP

You could also cut down a 2 7/8" Lake Country DA BP to accommodate a 2" pad. I believe the easiest way is using a DA to Drill adapter and then doing I Kevin Brown Style with an exact and sand paper (Safety Goggles)

The Hernandez Polisher is the real deal too. Art did a write up of how to construct one for about $5
