Dear Friends.

I'm asking here (Ask the Expert featuring Mike Phillips), but I also want any other expert here to chime in.

I'm to receive a Smart for detailing and coating, and from what I've seen, it has a Vinyl/Fabric (I don't know how it's called, sorry) Roof.

I've seen some topics on it, but personally, never worked on this material before.

Is there any special attention I need to give it, I mean, can I foam over it, can I use APC, brush it, can I use Aerospace protectant on it? I don't want to harm it anyway, apart from getting it looking beautiful and just like new, please, you need to guide me.

I don't have any special protectant for this material, and I'm afraid I would not have enough time to get a dedicated protection.

Can I use PBL Surface coating on it?

Please, every help is very welcome.

Thank you in advance,

Kind Regards.

I'm not an expert . But my girlfriends have a smart ( cabrio ) i think when you talk abaut vinily/fabric roof you mean it ?
I usually use meg d111 or d101 ( depends how dirty is ) with soft brush or sponge
You dont need to foam it and i use 303 areospace 2
Layers . Let the roof completly dry before to use it .
So that is what i usually do on my gf car . But like i sayd im not an expert.
So is better you wait for some exspert ))

Yes, you got it. Cabrio. Thanks for that.

I believe your method is good, however you said twice not being an expert that now I feel like needing an expert advice on that lol

Nonetheless, certainly your approach will be enough.

Any other tip on your girl's car that you consider important? I would appreciate.

Kind Regards.

the first thing that undergoes oxidation is the plastic rear window. you could use a sealant. you can polish it with the polish for example with meguiar's m10 for plastics and use something like car pro reload or any other spray sealant who can be used on plastic ))
Like i sayd before im not expert . I do detailing like a hobby i know smart cos is pretty common cars in italy
And more then all here there is person who start to do this job before who i was born . That why i sayd im not expert . In respect for those people ))

Thank you very much my friend, your comments are really appreciated.

I've tried to make a joke with the 'expert' issue while answering to you, it's difficult for a brazilian to make a joke in english to an italian... !

Now I see I've 'directed' the question at first for 'Experts', really SORRY for that. I haven't thought this WORD would sound 'WEIRD' as it is like I am reading now.

Please, forget about the Expert thing, when I said 'any other expert to chime in', I was meaning everyone are welcome, I used wrong word.

Again, thanks for comments.

Kind Regards.

No worry im not upset )) i just told you how i do on my gf smart )) that mean is not the perfect solution, i just had found who that was to work for me .
Sure someone like Mr Phillips know hot to do much better then anybody else here ))

Thank you!

Can you / or someone tell if Scotch Gard Fabric protection would work on this soft top?

Any tips on it?

Thank you in advance.

Kind Regards.

YouTube convertible top care. In like the top 15 results are 3 videos of either Mike Phillips or autogeek talking about cleaning, protection, and variants of tops.

Thank you for taking your time to help me out.

I've found this video (using your suggestion), really helpful.

That's Mike Phillips Convertible Top tips with Ragg Topp.

I got all the techniques, and also read around what not to do.

My last question to solve this, CAN I use APC (NonSense APC) to clean (with the soft brush, etc) and ScotchGard Fabric Protection after it has dried, because I'll not be able to order Ragg Topp kit and receive it (I'm from Brazil) before doing the car.

That's what I'll have in hand, and I'm pretty sure it'll work fine. Just need some confirmation...

Thanks Again.
