So How Do YOU ONR?

So Alex did you use LC sponge when you ONR? And did it create any marring or swirls?

Dude...I was kinda scared to use it LOL! I'm going to use it the next time I wash the car. I need to remove my LSP's because of hazing that I can't get rid of. Plus I planned on using Ben's sample of BFWD. So I will use it then.

I always had trouble removing wax because of hazing with black cars. DQ didn't help?

Nope...I think its either because I didn't let the Collinite 915 to cure and immediately applied Swissvax Concorso, or its because I applied the 915 to thick.

How the Swissvax Concorso? Is it very durable? I want to pick up Swissvax some day. I recently bought Fuzion which is my most expensive wax and Souveran.

It's extremely durable. I wrote a revew of the Griot's Garage Paint Prep because I had to use that to remove the Swissvax. My fiance got it for me for my birthday. I couldn't believe she'd gotten that for me. Here is my review of the paint prep...

Good review! How long was the Swissvax on the car? Can I use Meguair's boby solvent as a paint prep also?

About 3 months but from when I stripped it prior to using the Paint Prep, I feel it could easily last 3 more months.

I've never used the Meg's body solvent, but from the description, it sounds like it works the same. I don't know if the Paint Prep has any VOCs or what chemicals are actually used to strip the wax. But from what the Meg's sounds like, the Pain Prep is less aggressive.

I actually need to update my Paint Prep thread...I'm having some issues with staining on my windows. So if you're going to use the Paint Prep, I highly suggest that you wash the windows again afterwards.

Probably the former - you need to let these high-carnauba content waxes cure before layering another high-carnauba product or even itself, else the solvent in the new product (which can be quite strong, to keep the carnauba workable) will disturb the previous layer.

Yeah...I'm thinking you're right. I got pissed when I saw my car in the light today. I think I might take off friday to re-do everything.

If you rinse and scrub on a grit guard often LC sponge works and is safe. No pressure is necessary. The sponge picks up a ton of ONR and provides a ton of lubrication. You will use a lot of ONR. It definitely takes longer to ONR because you will need rinse it often to remove soil from sponge (if you don't you risk scratching and marring)

The MF chenille miff also is a nice way to ONR also and is faster than LC sponge on light soil.

On heavy soil the LC sponge is great but slow with all the rinsing. It releases the soil very easily.

BUT THERE ARE SO MANY WAYS TO DO IT. Find out what works best for you!!

I like to use a plush microfiber towel. I think it just works so much better than the sheepskin mitts I used before. I think the towel cleans better and I don't see any issues with it releasing the dirt.

I follow up with a clean damp towel (soak in ONR bucket before starting) to wipe the area and it is usually enough to dry the panel

I noticed ALOT of dust being attracted to my car from this past polish/wax detail and the only thing I could think of I did different is I didn't put down a sealant before putting down the two coats of wax.

I think it's the top coat that matters most and wax will attract more dust than a sealant for sure.

on another note, it's now been 3 days since I did that second ONR wash and topped with diluted KSG. There is a lot less dust and crap accumulation on the car. I'm not talking a subtle difference either. One day after DG AW, and the back end looked like it wasn't washed for 3 weeks. It's been 3 days of driving to work now and the car is much cleaner. Ok so the route is different from when I was driving around on the weekend but there's been no rain or anything that would affect how much general crap is on the roads.

Last night I was reading about the anti-static properties of the klasse twins and I've gotta say that after this past week's observations, maybe it's not all hype...

Also read that some guys put 20-40 coats of ksg on...:wow:

I'm getting tired just thinking about it...

Great info here guys, just received my order of ONR, will try it for the first time this weekend.....

On my previous car I did AIO x2, and then it had about 6-8 coats of KSG.

I found that after that, even just a QD spray would leave oils on the car that were a pain to get off - it's like the paint was sealed so well, the oils in the products that are meant to make the paint look deep just sat on top of the sealant, causing holograms. You could wipe your finger across them and the hologram would show the finger line, and then wipe the car with a clean MF and just recreate them...a good wash with car shampoo and a thorough dry was the only thing that would get the oils off....any other products would look awesome in the shade, and then in the sun you'd see the holograms sitting on top of the paint...

I use to do traditional wash on my car all the time. Now since new products are coming out, I been using waterless wash a lot. I think I'm going stick with waterless and ONR for in-between washes. Maybe for every traditional wash, 4 waterless or ONR. I have read people used pressure washer to get most of the dirt off the car before waterless or ONR.

When maintaining your car with ONR, do you guys spray wax after?

I do pretty much exactly the same.

Power Wash Rinse (if too dirty and don't feel like shampoo, I do a snow foam as well using CG Honeydew or Megs Hyper Wash and then rinse.
1 Bucket ONR solution
1 Bucket Clean Water for Rinsing
Microfiber Mitt as the Media (will try the "sliced" Grout sponge idea)
Long Pile Microfiber For Drying.
Finish with OCW

:xyxthumbs:

**1.5 oz of ONR mixed in 2 gallons of water in one bucket
**1 bucket with clean water and a grit guard for rinsing (if it is cold, 35-50 degrees outside, I put hot water to keep my hands warm)
**Spray off any particular spots (bird bomb) with ONR in a spray bottle premixed to loosen
**Rinse car off with water from a portable hose
**Wash car with an ACE grout sponge using the ONR mixed bucket
**Spot Dry with Meguairs Waffle Weave towel (I will be trying out the cobra guzzler hd soon)
**Wipe Down car with Cobra gold plush towel sprayed with Optimum Instant Detailer on the towel and panel (if its time to wax, I swap out detailer for optimum spray wax)
**Wipe down with dry side of towel

I use ONR as a clay lube. Maybe even a water softener now and then.:xyxthumbs:

Thanks for reviving this thread Ted.

So I just did an ONR on my car yesterday and I got to thinking...for those that only use 2 gallons of water...HOW are you doing it? I started off using 4 gallons and I had to refill the bucket with 2 more gallons of water and another ounce of ONR. Are you guys dipping your wash medium in the bucket and then wringing out the excess water? I just dip it in and then hit the panel.

I don't recall what wash media you are using Alex? That could be your water problem. I've used a microfiber chenille mitt the last couple vehicles I've done. And 2 Gallons was enough.

Also, I think the people using 2 gallons are not using a GG in the wash bucket.
