counterweight to use with it. I got a PC 7424 at a heck of a price and I got the 5 in. backing plate but i got 6.5 inch pads at the recommendation of the website. I have seen somewhere where it says to use only the five inch PLATE with the five inch counterweight. I have also seen where it says to use a six inch counterweight for any PADS larger than 5 inches regardless of backing plate size. I will not be using the pads for correction and am aware that the 5.5 in pads are better for correction but at this time i am only using the PC for application/removal of product. So do i need to get the 6 in. counterweight or will i be fine with the factory installed counterweight?

Thanks

I also have the pc with the same set up i think AG did this as an entry level setup to give plenty of room for error. with the 5 in. or 5.5 in. plate and 6.5 in. pads there is a lot of room between the edge of the plate and the edge of the pad. The problem I think is as a result the machine is not as smooth as it could be with this set up. I've used mine for correction w/5.5 in pads with great success. I only have the 6.5 in pads in white, grey, & blue, and since I have a rotary now I use the pc to apply wax and sealant, no problem. but i still think the right size pad, backing plate, counterweight combo will make the pc run smoother.
also make sure pads are centered, this will cut down on vibration too.:buffing:

In my experience, I've only installed the 6 inch counterweight when using a 6 inch backing plate.

Take a look at the stock white pad that Porter Cable send with the polisher. The 5 inch backing plate and 6.5 inch pad combo most closely resembles this. So that you can use the factory installed counterweight.

I've never had any issues with using the same counter weight that came on the PC, and that is with a lot of different size/weight pads.
