So last week I finally got to use my 7424 on my car. Was really happy with the job it did and happy I had my car looking real nice.

I go out to get a haircut on my way home I have a green to go straight, going 40, dude making a right on a red gets out in the lane then stops, I hit the brakes and lock up all four and well the pictures tell the rest

Luckly the damage stopped at the fender and didnt go to the passenger side door panel. In addition to what you see I think I screwed all 4 tires.

Even if you can, don't try to open that passenger door. It's very very very likely that it'll chip some paint on the door where it meets the fender.

Do the body work yourself, simply bolt on the new fender and bumper and save a lot of money.

So does your neck suddenly hurt? *wink_wink*

Just kidding, but seriously, don't let this guys insurance jack you around. You pick a good body shop with a good reputation, and make them pay for it. Find someone that will do a good job with your car, body work is really hit or miss, and is easy to screw up. Also, try and bring it to a qualified suspension place before you have the insurance adjuster come out, so they can look and make sure nothing happened other than flat spotting of the tires (which I doubt since you were doing 40). Once the paint has cured for ~10 days, you will be able to make that panel look as good as it once did. Really sorry to see that it happened. Good luck.

Yeah I opened it a few times then noticed that so I havent done it since. I was considering that since a fender for this car is pretty cheap, but I already went to insurance with my dad.

We both have state farm and my agent said they should be able to get the deductable for me from him so I won't have to pay anything. So I think I'll be going through insurance now.

Haha thats what a witness said, "does your neck hurt, because you know you can get a lot of money if it does" I'm fine I just want my car fixed.

I think my tires are ok but I have no abs so I left like 15feet of skid marks and when I looked behind me all I could see was tire smoke.

Damn that sucks. New car too..

Did the guy stop?
Yeah well the guy was stopped when I hit him. I pulled off quick got him too also got his info myself, then the cop got his info. Cop said he was at fault, I think he got a ticket for it too. His car was worse than mine, I was pretty surprised when I saw my front.

Man that sucks, brand new vehicle too. Glad nothing serious happened but it's a bummer to see such a good detail done to the vehicle go to waist but hopefully you will get it looking like new again. Hey this is a perfect time to experiment before it gets fixed...okay everyone get the wet sanding paper out and the rotaries out hahahaha...just kidding.

Hope everything works out, keep us posted.

Ha that thought did pass my mind, can't screw it up anymore. I just took it out for a drive the steering is off and the tires are making noise so I'm pretty sure I'll need new ones. I have had the car since sept 05, but have always been proud of it looking spotless.

You certainly shouldn't have to pay anything. I also have state farm, and had a similar accident last year. Basically what you'll do is this: Go to any body shop (go to your local checy dealer since they wil charge the most). Get a quote from them, and then the chevy dealer will fax this estimate to State farm. State farm will then literally send you a check for this amount. You can do whatever you want then. You can just go to the Chevy dealer and have them fix it (if it ends up being more than the check, they will re-fax the new cost to State farm, and state farm will pay the rest), or you can go to a cheaper body shop and keep the rest of the money or do it yourself.

When I had my fender bender, I had my quote for about $1800. I did all the work myself except for having a body shop re-paint my front bumper, but I prepped it and sanded it. I also found a matching fender at a local junk yard for $125 painted OEM and matched perfectly.

Long story short, I profited over $1000, and I too have State Farm.

Here's the link from a long time ago about my re-build: http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/off-topic/3039-my-fender-bender-re-build.html

you know what they say.....

waxing a car either brings massive downpour...or body panel damage :D

Wow thanks for the info, but I think I may just a shop handle it. I'm worried about stuff not lining up right if I do it. But I did look at the prices, I can get my fender for around $95, front bumper for like $235, hubcap for $20. Do you have any idea how insurance deals with tires? Would I got to like tire kingdom and get an estimate for tires there? Or would all that be done at a body shop. I would like like a say in the tires I get if I can, stock ones are horrible, I hope I dont get replacement stockers.

Man, sorry to hear that. That dose sucks.
Check out PartsTrain.com - Hard to Find Auto Parts and Truck Parts for body parts.
Thanks for the link I just checked them out but this site is cheaper GM Parts Cheap at least for the fender, and I have used them before. With that said I'm going to let the shop deal with it.

The other guy is now telling his insurance company that he was not in the intersection well its impossible that he hit me if he was not there. Insurance agent came out today took pictures of my car they will do the same to his, going to call the witness # I gave them and might have to wait till next monday for the police report. But its his fault so I'm not paying for my deductible.

ouch! driving around a dented and accidented up car is the worst feeling in the world.

Well I took the car in monday and just got it back today. I didn't have to pay anything at all, was all on the other guys insurance. 2k in damage, there was suspension damage. I taking it back next week so they can realign the fender because its not flush.

Great when the guy at fault tries to lie isnt it? I had a guy bump me from behind when I was a kid and he then got out and said his car was damaged. Funny part was that the whole front end was wrecked already! It was a camaro and the front rubber part was totally demolished. I took his info and he kept telling me that he just had the insurance adjuster check it and now with more dmamage the insurance wouldnt cover it. I kept quiet and he then said for $100 he wouldnt report it. Told him to report it, go ahead, no problem. Guy was a total scumbag. Ended up he did report it but forgot to tell his insurance that the whole front end was damaged already. After one call to me they left me alone thankfully.

Only 10 days? It's been 4 days since they spot painted 2 stress cracks by my trunk and 11 days since they redid my bumper... I'm willing to wait ~30 days but If I only have to wait 10 before using a light polish+sealant+wax then that is even better... Is 10 days ok for doing these things then?

Well the good part is he didnt lie to the cop, and the cop looked a both cars and could see what happened. But it seemed like the insurance claim lady didnt want to beleive me as much as the other guy. I called her after 5days and said I have the police report in my hand, and she still wanted to hear my side of the story 1day later she approved the claim. And the guy that said he saw it was no help at all, the cop tried calling him didnt pick up, insurance called a left a message and nothing happened.

Good to know that things are working out for ya! There's just this bad feeling when driving around with a damaged car...

And I'm starting to feel the same way about driving around with an un-detailed car :o

Still trying to find a solid answer on how long I should be waiting before using a light polish (Menzerna FP w/ white LC pad) on new paint... followed by a DG sealant and Souveran LW.

Anyone have a solid answer??? I probably won't have to use the FP on the rear bumper that was repainted as there are no spiderwebs there but there are some on the 2 spots that were spot painted near the 2 top corners of my trunk, so I'd like to go over them if it's safe to do so!

just make sure they use all OE parts. i was in a accident last year and the insureance companies just started using LKQ parts. standing for Like Kind Quality they get the parts out of the LKQ junk yard and save themselves ton of cash in the process for inferior parts that have been sitting outside for who knows how long. I ended up paying out of my pocket to get OE parts. the guys insureance wouldn't pay and lawsuits brought against theinsureance companies for using LKQ parts have failed so i paid out of my pocket. funny thing is that LKQ stock has doubled in the past 1-2 years after they got to the insureance companies.

RANT OFF
