Sorry for creating so many topics... I just had some questions that I wanted answered, and it took a few days for my account to get approved...

I have read many of the posts on all of the sections of these forums and one thing I have noticed again and again is how important it is to not wash your car in the sun.

The problem is, I do not have a garage that I can use for washing my car in, and there is no place with any shade around my house anywhere.

Has anyone else been in this situation? And what did you do to solve the problem?

Well actually its not so much that your not suppose to, its that it can cause problems. If you let the soapy water dry on the car while your washing it, it can create streaks or spots. More common is the problem of getting water spots when drying. Its not bad to wash your car in the sun, its just harder to do a good job. There are a few things you can do. First and most simple keep the car wet while your washing it and dry quickly. Second: buy a in-line water filter, this will reduce water spotting. Third: wash the car in the wee hours of the morning or at dusk. Fourth: Buy a pop up canopy.

I have nothing to add from the top of my head, Joy did a good job.

I sometimes wash my car under the sun too, but I wash it a section at a time. Just don't let the soap dry off especially on the windscreen. I too sometimes wax my car under the sun, but I use wax on wax off method. So that it doesn't streak or difficult to remove. Hope it helps. I parked my car behind my house's back lane. Most of the time, I could only wash and wax my car outside the back lane.

Just wash your car when the sun isnt out?

Ha... Thanks 6LS2, making me feel like an idiot :P.

Just wondering. Guess I will just try to do a good job then.

It's not always feasible, but I try to wash at dusk.

i wash my truck at like 4 in the morning. i wake up go outside and start washing in my bathrob and slippers and my latern.:pworks out pretty good .intill i go to walk around to the other side of the truck and trip over my dam wash bucket and spill all my soap out.

you can wash a car early in the morning, or late evening...you can still wash your car even in direct sunlight...as long as it is not a black car...wash one section at a time, rinse, and rewet the whole car... follow this process if you don't want any water spots...black cars - wash in the shade...

The speed of drying and increased risk of spotting are the only problems I've ever seen with washing in the sun. If your water is hard you can rinse in a gentle straight stream which will sheet the water off. I use ONR for washing and other personal discomfort the sun doesn't affect things for me.

I can wash my truck if I start at about 9am on Saturdays. Sometimes I don't get started until 10am and then the back end is already getting sun. I try to wash it and then rinse it right off and keep it wet. The Guzzler works well, add a spritz of QD to it and you're good to go. No issues yet!

What is this inline water filter all about?
I have hard well water here, that is the root of my detailing problems here.

well - I found some other threads here and read some.
my real question would now be:

This water softener filter setup looks like a mini version of a whole house water softener which I already have. I don't use the water from it to wash my cars, 'cause I'm afraid of salt entering areas that cannot be dried properly after washing, thus inducing rust after a few years. So I basically just get my water straight from my well pump, which I know is dirty and hard, with tons of calcium and tannin and such.

The softened water should have some salt in it as a final product. Is this a concern with this smaller setup that AG sells????

I have an extra filter canister setup laying around here, I guess I can buy the filter(s) here, and some rejuvenating products for it if this is a better solution.

Read up on Poorboy's World products. They work great in the sun. Get some Poorboy's World Spray & Wipe for water spots. Consider washing with DP 4-in-1 or ONR. That would make it a rinseless wash.
