I'm curious as to why we don't see some of these brands (blackfire, wolfgang, DP) in local detail shop. I have one small shop close to me and they don't sell any of the products I like. Why is that?

Because high quality detailing products are outrageously expensive compared to the cheap bulk junk products most production detail shops use.

This.

Most people going in local shops are not going to pay $50 for a 16 oz bottle of sealant. Hell, most don't know what a sealant is.

They just wouldn't sell.

LOL! @ the responses so far....subscribed! ha ha ha ha ha, I knew it was going to be bad.

Not intended to bash the OP just loving the hammering on the production detailers.

Lol! No hammering on my part. I'm talking about your average person walking in an O'Reilly's etc. They're looking to wash their car and make it shine for cheap. Most won't pay for the high dollar products.

👍

Exactly, nor do they have any clue or care what the differences are.

The Griots stuff at my Advance Auto has like an inch of dust on it.

The majority of PBE/Jobbers are not going to carry too many boutique car-care brands.

Because those 3 you mentioned are AG house brands. You will see Menzerna or CarPro sold on a lot of different sites because they aren't house brands.

Ehh you can call them boutique while I'll call them house brands. They are boutique in the fact that they are hard to find outside of PBMG subsidiaries, but that is just because they are house brands.

Let the haters hate!

And will soon be 5 cents and still sit there till someone who actually knows better comes to get it. Yesterday at Kmart getting a couple on sale items a husband and wife walked down the isle, the guy said 'just get the turtle wax it is on sale.'

You really must not know what PBEs and Jobbers are.

All of the previous statements are pretty dead on.

Additionally, many of the AGO products are developed in conjunction with other companies like Menzerna and are not actually manufactured by PBMG.

It is not unusual in situations like this for the co-developer/manufacturer to stipulate that the products can only be sold thru certain outlets, so they do not compete directly everywhere.

may or may not be the case with the AGO House Brands.

Most auto parts store customers buy mostly on price or brand awareness so it would be a hard sell to have products costing over $15 or $20. Some companies actually pay to have their products on the shelves.

No bashing production people here. Facts are mostly they use extremely cheap and often mediocre quality products to squeeze every penny they can put of each detail. It is just the nature of that business.

YEAH! I just picked up some Glass Sealant today to try it. Literally every Griot's product has a layer of dust on it and most have separated into two suspended liquids. Makes me sad. However, it's great to be able to have that option locally. Their microfibers are nice too, quality Korean MF's, but too expensive. The Rag Company has much better prices for that quality.

Its even funny to go into a body shop supply house. Lucky if they have 3m products. I went in and ask if they carried Meguiars, they said "sure do" with a snicker, then asked if they had some 3in Microfiber cutting disk and they looked and me like I was crazy... "they make those??... ohhh..." After 10 minutes on a computer, "we can get them in a week"...well so can I, lol
