Some Detailing Observations: My 9 Commandments

Steve, I think the disconnect lies where Bob is going beyond marketing-speak. The word "polymer" just describes a large molecule. Pretty much everything complex has "polymers" in it, including ALL of the products you just listed.

I don't get the dislike of coatings. A swirl or two doesn't bother near as much as having to re apply a wax or sealant every few months. That is of course if your problem with coatings is that they get swirls and need to be polished then re applied.

I love my 22ple coating won't ever go back to sealants or waxes.

I'm not saying I'll stop using traditional LSPs, but I'm sold on the advantages of the new products.

Certainly for paid jobs it's a heck of an up-sell from a "make-it-shiny" to an all-out correction and coating, so it won't be my bread and butter, but the same way the local Dodge dealership always had a Viper in the showroom next to a Neon and Caravan, it's good marketing to let people know you offer an over-the-top service as well.

I read a study on another site that looked at layering of waxes

Basically it determined that a 2nd coat could add some thickness, but the main benefit is ensuring complete coverage

In one section of the study, the application of a 3rd coat actually decreased the thickness

Thanks, I appreciate that. That just saved me some wasted time. Instead of 2 coats of wax I'll use the time to do one polish and one wax.

How did I miss this thread?? Thanks, Swanic, for your time and insight, much appreciated!
