Hi everyone.

I just wanted to share some results of a little glass polishing I did last night on my 300zx's 21 year old windshield.

I've had the car for more than 6 years now and never got around to fixing the nasty swirls and scratches that were all over the glass. Not sure how it got this bad. Almost looks like the previous owner would use a steel brush to clean it

They're not so horrible in my garage lighting, but out in the sun they are awful to look at. So much so that they actually impair my vision.

I finally got tired of looking at scratches while driving so I decided to do something about it.

I used the following:

Flex PE14
CarPro Rayon glass polishing pad
CarPro Ceriglass glass polish
distilled water
damp microfiber towel

The glass polishing pads have very little cushion so it can be quite a challenge to control, especially on a rotary. Still, with a little patience and many overlapping passes, I started to see some awesome results. I actually ended up throwing on the handle for better control. Haven't used a handle in quite some time.

Yes, that's my Amazon camera remote clicker.

I find that when polishing glass, it is important to work in small sections and keep the polish wet with a little bit of distilled water. I used speed 4 and did my final pass with speed 2.

I had to go back and apply more polish and keep working the product to really make a difference. These were some pretty serious defects and I knew I wasn't going to get by with 4-6 overlapping passes like I would on paint. 10-12 passes is more like it.

Before

After

Some deeper scratches did remain. It didn't come out 100% defect free but it was still a enormous improvement. The swirls and scratches used to be very distracting while driving in daylight. Now it's back to crystal clear.

I might end up purchasing a new windshield just because I have a few nasty little rock chips, but for now, I'm very happy with how my glass looks. I wish I hadn't been so lazy about it in the past. Otherwise I would have done it much sooner

Thanks for reading, now it's time for a wash to clean up the splatter.

wooah! What an improvement. I polished my windshield a while back it came out okay but it looks like it has been sand blasted from all the dust/wind it has experienced over 20 years

Thanks guys!

Awesome job !!!! More pics of the 300zx please :)

Sure thing :)

Here are some photos from a quick wash today. I got a chance to use some Four Star Auto Wash Shampoo that I got from Nick. Good stuff. Doesn't require much to get a lot of foam and feels super slick.

Thanks for the write up!

And beautiful car! That's the way they all should look.

Seriously need you to come to canada and do my car. My impala windshield is the same way. Impairs my vison but i'm not forking out 700 bucks for a new one till this one breaks. Looks like the previous owner took rocks on a wash mit
