came back to find this:

Went home and used Meguiar's rubbing compound to take off paint transfer from other car. That worked fine, but there are areas where the other car took the paint completely off. See picture below. How should I go about fixing this? I am new to detailing. I read that I can use touch up paint - wetsand and then buff/polish it. Never wetsanded before and honestly kinda scared to even attempt it.

I would recommend using Dr. Colorchip. The company will use the paint code for your car's color. You simply dab, smear, and wipe off with their solvent. You can build it up to fill the scratch and wipe away the excess. Wetsand only if needed.

if its only a scratch your worried about wet sand it with 1500 6inches out of the scratched area all around the scratch use a soft foam sanding block then go to a local bodyshop and ask them to sell you 1oz of paint and 2oz of clear go home clean the area with thinner get a prevail sprayer and mix your paint in it only cover/paper up the tail light area then spray your base 4to6 inches away just on the scratches let it dry 10to15mins now you may need to do that multiple times then when they look filled in enough step back and mist it 12to15inches away to balance out the metalics, next mix your clear in another prevail clear the whole area sanded leaving 1inch of 1500grit scratch left let it dry 8hrs then lightly sand your new clear with 1500 then buff the whole bumper..

in my system it show min mix 2.oz $2.67 cents is my cost so base and clear should be no more then 20bucks..

Call your insurance company and make a claim.

I wouldn't do that. The damage is not even close to covering the deductible. As a representative of the "Your in good hands" company, I would get an estimate, then make your decision.

My advice to customers in a situation such as this, is if you have a $500 deductible, and the damage is $750 to fix, you will only receive $250 from the insurance company and have a claim on your record; which may cause an increase in your premium. If you don't want to pay the $750 to have it fixed and can live with the damage, then leave it alone. Or have it done. But I wouldn't make a claim. Just my .02. Good luck and karma will get the person who did this :xyxthumbs:

My suggestion is to check your policy then with your insurance company. What is your deductable ? What is the cost ? Also, you may have coverage that covers hit and run type damage, were there is no deductable. It might be listed as uninsured motorist coverage.

I just did a car with Dr. Colorchip and it did an ok job with filling in a hairline scratch. I really wanted to follow Richy's key repair step by step, but I didn't have enough time/skills/knowledge to wetsand. What I did was used a toothpick (recommended by Richy) and let it sit just alittle bit above the scratch and let it wick down. I had a problem with the paint flowing out of the scratch so what I did was put some painters tape right below the scratch-fyi you do NOT want to let the tape sit too long otherwise it will pull the paint right back out. The scratch went diagonally on the rear passenger door. Basically I'd fill in, wait about two hours and then remove. I had layered it several times. Since I have a somewhat of a trained eye and am my own worst critic, I could still see the scratch. She said she couldn't see or feel it anymore.

What I suggest you do is do more research on his techniques he used in the following thread before I do something like this. I suggest you take the time to learn this method and try it out.

Crazy shout out to Richy for this thread:

dont call insurance, cover it yourself. Otherwise you'll have a Carfax blemish and even more loss when trying to sell it later plus they will bump your premiums.

It always seems like the camry's get hit...someone scraped my front bumper because I backed into the parking spot at Walmart (I hate Walmart with a burning passion, so many careless people) looks like they backed out and hit it, and ran. the car's white so there's a nice big black scrape there. But anyway, just shop around some body shops and see what quotes you get. MAKE SURE THEY'RE REPUTABLE. You should go to where you bought it at, because that's your best bet. Just my .02
