Hollywood and film companies write huge checks to our corrupt congress to push this forward. They care nothing of anybody else. I suggest google and the others write bigger checks.

I don't want to lose my torrents. I love them. It has replaced TV.

Congress can try all they want to build a better mouse trap....but the mice are too smart for them. There's always a way around something if you want it badly enough.

Without commenting on SOPA itself, am I in the minority if I still pay for movies and music? Call me a nerd or whatever, but I feel like I should pay musicians and actors for their work...

Bill was educating me on this bill... Scary stuff. They cloak it in things that sound good... But it's a way for them to control the only form of mass free speech. Guess what America... Freedom of speech is about to end. Welcome to the united states of China and the end of our republic.
United states government = hypocrites.... And it truly saddens me to say that but I better say it now.... It won't be long before I won't be aloud...

Just remember, we're the idiots who elected them to office.

Ultimately I think we'll see another Civil War before an elimination of free speech actually happens.

So you steal them? Not sure how that is ok in your mind, but whatever...

I buy my music and movies as well, but that is not what this bill is threatening. Say I posted some copyrighted material on these forums and someone turned me in, not only would I go to jail as a federal criminal, this website would be shut down and fined. That is why websites like Facebook, twitter, youtube and all these other user generated websites are threatened by this bill. The actual piracy itself is a small fraction of this bill, people are comparing this to China's great firewall.

Exactly!

One thing about the SOPA/Protect IP issue that really makes me mad is the fact that NOT ONE major news network has reported on it, not once has it been mentioned and it never will. Why?

Because the major news networks are owned by SOPA supporters! I mean afterall, who cares about reporting on major news that will effect the entire US population and maybe other countries when it goes agains the ideals of a few higher ups who run the networks who only care about profits. Screw the news, screw letting people know whats on the line if this passes, its all the profits afterall. Thankfully we are in the internet age where stuff like this cannot sneak under the radar.

This bill honestly has nothing to do with piracy, they are using that as a convient excuse as its "supposedly" a major issue(its not) to take control of the last remaining medium of absolute free speech.

This is quite common in Congress. Piracy is an very big issue like many others but when it goes through the legislation process it allows certain interests to get laws passed that benefit them.

nope not really because i don't download mainstream music only time i listen to it is on the radio, i just rarely download music anyways if i do its a song or two from smaller artists with usualy free music.i just rarely download music to be honest, my music is my car engine/exhaust :) that is true music to my ears, nor do i watch much movies either. most music out there now is complete garbage tis why i don't even enjoy most of it because of that. id rather turn my radio off and listen to my engine.....just because i said i don't buy cd's or movies don't mean i steal them, i stream a lot of what i watch movie wise just use a cable from a laptop to my tv....but still government trying to control the internet like there already trying to control our lives is just ridiculous, tired of the government trying to turn this nation into something other then what it was founded on. really irritates me, just like they tell us what we can and cannot do/put into our bodies, if i want to go out and eat some dirt i will, if i want to go out and chew on some asphalt i sure enough will do it!. love my country hate my government, its too influenced by money as i've said and will always say unless proven otherwise if you have a ton of money and are big business you can change any law you want and break any law you want...its really sad the way this nation has become our fore-fathers are probably rolling in their grave's right now. :nomore: assuming!

Al Gore will have a huge hissy-fit if someone messes around with his invention!!! I'm not ready for that.

:D
