Sorry but have to vent

kronos any kind of help would be very grateful

It will correct ok with the 6.5" pads, just not connected to a 5" BP. That is the issue. Sell a 5" bp with 5.5" pads and a 6"bp with 6.5" pads, not a 5" bp with 6.5" pads.

I still think they should sell the 5.5" pads instead of the 6.5" pads with the kit. Seems to work better for me :buffing:

:iagree: but what can u do
If your 6.5 pads are nearly new, put them up for trade on the samples thread with a picture and see what you get offered. Somebody might be sitting on a bunch of 5.5s they no longer use because they upgraded to a flex or something.

I know it is a bit too late for the OP, but I'm posting this hoping it can help someone in the future...

I have posted this a couple times before, (But even I can't find my older posts...) If someone prefers to use 5.5" pads, I do believe you can call them and they will set you up with a kit with 5.5" pads... We all know how well AG takes care of their customers, they just go the extra 5 miles for us...

Also, most people get more than 6 pads... So getting this kit, with the 6.5" pads, and getting grey red and white for light correction, waxes, sealers, glazes, and then adding some 5.5" for more aggressive correction would make sense...

I assumed you were new to detailing, now I look like an ***. I don't know, it sounds like you're doing everything correctly. loudog2 brings up a good point about using a bigger backing plate to achieve proper correction with your 6.5" pads. That or investing in 5.5" pads, which is the ideal pad size for the PCXP anyways.

Are you trying to use the PC to achieve 3-step corrections, 2-step, 1-step or AIO corrections?

I love AG...but I have to say that including 6.5"pads with a PC 7424xp kit is....OK, I'll say it...ridiculous. The same thing happened to me when I first got into machine polishing, and I was forced to buy additional 5.5" pads before I could do anything besides putting down an LSP. Maybe the GG oribital and Flex Da polisher can handle 6.5" pads without a problem...but a newbie just starting out in machine polishing, and buying a PC 7424xp which includes 6.5" pads makes absolutely no sense to the customer. Don't you want a new customer to have the best pad size for the appropriate polisher in the kit? I was told that AG includes the 6.5" pads because when first starting out, they don't want the user to be able to mess anything up (i.e. you can't mess up the paint with a 6.5" pad on a PC 7424xp unless you throw the thing on the car's hood). Trust me, the thought did occur.

Yes, looking back, I could have called AG support, complained, and probably got some new pads sent out...but why on earth put the customer and AG through all that?

Think of it this way....why would Meg's sell the new Meg's MF DA kits with pads other than the ones best suited for used with a DA polisher? Performance would suffer and people would be a bit miffed.

I think this is a legit thread. I hated the purchase of my new PC 7424xp when I first received it because of the pads. Now, I wouldn't be without it because on my own (and knowing nothing about machine polishing at the time)...I had to do the research, ask questions, and then order new 5.5" pads. The 5.5" pads are a perfect match.

:nomore:6.5" pads with PC 7424xp kits....

I agree:

Basic 7424xp kits should include a 5" backing plate and 5.5" pads. Moreover, they should include the $3 65 gram counterweight (6") for less vibration. They could include glazing pads and applicators at 6.5", and larger kits could include a 6" pb just for that purpose.

I to bought the same kit, but I had no problems correcting the paint on my car with the 6.5 inch pads and 5" backing plate. As long as I don't oversaturate the pads, the 7424xp has no problems keeping the pads rotating. I found for the roof, hood and trunk, the 6.5 pads work fine, but prefer the additional firmness and control of the 5.5 pads for the sides of the car.

Didn't know there was a different size counterweight depending on the bp you are using. If I am using a 5in bp with the Griots, should I get a different counterweight?

As soon as I got my GG, I swapped out the bp's and slapped on 5.5 inch pads but I don't know how much vibration is considered normal...
