Sort of question, sort of rant.

You guys are lucky you don't live in Hawaii. Free shipping doesn't apply. Would like to order from AG but can't justify the shipping. I order from Amazon for free shipping over $25, even on gallon quantities. Even order from one manufacturer of a great line of products that gives few shipping over $75, even to Hawaii. They use USPS flat rate boxes and sometimes my orders require multiple boxes but all still free. from my understanding AG doesn't even discount the rate when they offer free shipping to everyone else. I must admit though that they aren't the only ones. Really chafes me get all these emails with free shipping codes that don't apply to me.

I have good knowledge of online shipping charges from having my own online business (clearly not doing as well as they are lol).

I do know residential delivery via ups or Fed Ex is at least $8.20 to $9 for a one pound package which is the minimum weight.

It goes up a dollar or two as the weight increases. Of course it depends on the shipping zone you're in, but that is a good rough idea. So $12 isn't too far off for a one pound box shipped ground. Fed ex Ground and UPS charge roughly $8 to 10 a week for an account and of course you get discounts based on volume.

now if they were charging $12 for 3oz via the post office then I would have issue.

However, I still don't believe in making money off of shipping (box is normally no more than 25 to 50 cents if that), but $12 for a one pound package is some what in the ball park. It should probably be closer to $10 - $11 (max).

p.s as mentioned above Hawaii can get expensive..

Lornek, I feel your pain. As a former kama'aina, now transplanted to TX, I know what it feels like to be paying EXTRA shipping.

Sounds like you got a good thing going with that other company. I think I know what company you're talking about. Stick with them. If they treat you right and give you good deals, I see no reason to shop anywhere else.
:dblthumb2:

I HATE to pay shipping. I always build my orders > than $95 and apply AGO Code.

I'm with Old Tiger - 40+ orders and have never paid shipping.

AGO is not the only kid in town. There are lots of others with varying shipping policies and rates. Get to know them, and the pros & cons of each...

While I suppose that most of us would prefer to do biz with AGO, the reality of it is that not all of us can afford to spend enough to get free, or reduced, shipping from AGO. I am a hobbiest with only 3 cars to detail, am OCD and frequently enjoy the hype of wanting to quickly try new products.

When I am looking for something that happens to be available elsewhere for less total cost, that's where I go. Total Cost = Product Cost + Shipping Costs. Pretty plain and simple.

All that said, AGO is still the finest online retailer there is. I am neither upset by their shipping costs, nor am I bitter. Simply, I keep in mind the true costs of doing biz. Consequently, I have a little more spending money nowadays.

AG is a business. All businesses online have to incorporate shipping costs into their business model. This is not harsh at all. Complaining about the shipping costs is not going to change anything.

That and there's a new thread every other day lately where someone is complaining about shipping costs or discounts with shipping.

I don't think paying for shipping is too bad. I was able to get a small Fuzion, Aquawax, a small Ultimate Interior Guard, and a small Sonus Shampoo all for sixty some dollars between the sale and a discount code. Ended up paying eighty something with 14.99 shipping. I think I still got a great deal! You have to shop smart

surprised no one from AG chimed in on this one. It does stink when you just want a few small things and you have to pay above average shipping rates.

...but yeah, just spend $95 and use code AGO.

again with codes being broadcasted.. no offense.. but it's not good for the lifecycle of the code.

You can't always wait for free shipping or the need to buy more than $95 or higher worth of products, sometimes you only need one or two items and the shipping should be adjusted accordingly, as a service to the customer. Perhaps that's what AG is going for, not the couple items purchase, but making you buy at least $95 worth to save on shipping? I don't really know.

I'm not sure where this belongs exactly, but if a mod sees a better fit somewhere else, then fine.

I recently purchased a bottle of polish on autogeek, and after adding it to my cart, I continued shopping as I wanted to get another white CCS pad. OK, click add to cart. $20 was added to the total. Seriously? They added $7.99 for "shipping", on top of the price of the pad even though the weight of it is negligible, and someone could toss it in the box with the polish in 30 seconds.

I wound up buying the pad somewhere else that had it for 6.99 and $6 shipping. $12.99 seems somewhat reasonable for a pad.

If I added a pencil eraser to my order, would I be charged $5.99 shipping? If so, why? I understand they pay for shipping and need to make money, but if I'm paying an extra $6 for every item, why don't they just raise the price of everything and less for shipping. That way I won't feel so bad, and feel that I'm getting screwed.

I'm not really that upset, just more curious than anything else. It has taught me to be a more careful and thoughtful shopper. In times like these, you would think a company would waive an unnecessary fee like that to keep me happy and buying from them. I'm not saying I'm not going buy again, but will research thoroughly each and every time before hitting that buy button. Maybe someone from autogeek could chime in with an explanation. I understand S & H, but not 6-7 dollars for every item. Especially when they don't weigh anything.

On a side note, this forum is awesome and I'm not going anywhere.

Freight charges are way out of line. That is one the reasons I try to buy locally. Also I like to take care of the local economy.

The freight companies put on surcharges when gas goes up. When gas goes down, the surcharges are still there. They also charge by size of boxes.

Absolutely, the ONLY way I'll order online is if there's no way I can buy locally, even if a bit of a drive is involved. Unfortunately, the majority of what I use isn't available locally, so when I buy online, I buy in bulk.

if you're talking about the AGO code that isn't going anywhere. it's been available since I joined under my original screen name Audilover in early 2010.

I state this with no attitude (hard to tell online), the other code which use to offer 20% off was around for a while as well. It got chopped to 10% recently. I hate to see the same thing happen to the AGO code :)
