Special prep before bringing car to mechanic?

I always turn my own wrenches but I have recall work coming up soon (freaking airbags) that I'm not allowed to do myself. I am honestly terrified of letting someone else work on my car for fear of them scratching/marring the finish.

Aside from doing a maintenance wash the day before, what else can I do to protect the fenders/hood? I've been looking into some of the temporary clear films like TracWrap...
 
Do it and you will get some weird looks lol.There are somethings you can't control,wrap the fender and then the tech scuffs the sill which is not removal.just relax and let them do there thing.only subject you can bring up to your advisor is no car wash.sometimes that's still not enough said,throw him a 20 and you will be remembered by him with your certain request or promblems.
 
Take a tip from the aussies... "She'll be right"..

It normally isn't (cos there are so many dumb asses in the world) but is saves lot of premature stress.. .
 
Fender padding won't help replacing airbags will it. Most of that work would be in the cabin. I'd be more concerned with the doors and interior.
 
If they're working on replacing the air-bag, they shouldn't need to go under the hood unless to unbolt the negative lead from the battery.
Essentially, it's pull the cover off the steering wheel, undo the 4 hex nuts to the inflatior/bag, remove the bag package, replace the bag package with new, install the 4 hex nuts, put the cover back on, put the negative lead back on the battery.

If you have a conversation with the service advisor, he may let you go in the shop while they do the work... I've dropped my garage queen off at the Ford dealership and it came back fine. Take a moment to show him the car, tell him it's a show-car and it's flawless. Make sure they put their best guy on it.
When I brought mine in, the tech actually came out to me and told me he could tell I take very good care of the car.

Just tell them to treat it like Liberace's Piano :)

I do all the work on my personal truck as it's old school and easy wrenching.

For the wife's Mercedes-Benz SL500 I only let on shop and also a good friend do any maintenance work to it and he knows what I do for a living.

That said, the first time I took him the car I pointed out the flawless condition of the paint and also showed him the paint code inside the driver's door where it shows our MB has the Ceramiclear paint finish on it.
I then explained what it means to have a Ceramiclear finish to bring him up to speed

I also stressed how mint condition the interior is and how important the interior is to my wife.


Whenever we take him our car he treats it with kids gloves. We also send him work so I'm sure it's a mixture of all these things that gives me peace of mind leaving our car with him and it always comes back just they way we left it with him. Clean and purdy.
