Here at SpeedFreak Detailing, I am always striving to stay ahead of those around me, to hone my skills to a level that NO ONE can compete with. I also pride myself on using and offering my clients the best products on the market. Some time ago I began talks with the exclusive USA retailer of Modesta, a pure glass nano coating manufacturer based in Japan. Modesta is a two part system consisting of a primer polish/coat, and a top coating. The look of the product is unlike anything I've seen, and the thickness is rivaled by none. The coating offers a deep wet, reflective gloss that looks absolutely unbelievable. This is the very first coating package I've completed, and I wanted to wait until the video was finished to post this detail.

The vehicle showcased is a 2011 f10 535i that has covered almost 50,000 miles. It is a daily commuter that is subjected to all nature's elements, and had it's fair share of swirls, scratches, rock chips, and even rotary buffer swirls. A full multi stage correction was in order, as well as touching up the rock chips on the front end. After all corrective work was performed, the full front end was wrapped in paint protection film, to eliminate further defects. Lastly, the entire body including the wheels, and paint protection film were treated to Modesta's P-01A Primer & BC-04 Nano-Titanium Glass Coating. The exterior glass surfaces were also treated to Optimum's Opti Glass Pro coating.

Going forward, Modesta will be the flagship coating offered here at SpeedFreak Detailing. I strive to offer my clients choices, and as such, Opti Coat Pro will still be offered as it is an EXCELLENT product as well. If anyone has any questions about the Modesta product line please feel free to ask.

Here is a video a friend put together for me, from footage I shot during the process. BE SURE TO WATCH IN HD!!!

And now onto the coating process. I'd like to thank Alex Borda, of Pure Shine/Modesta for helping out with the install!

Part of the intricate application process, each panel must be cured with an Infrared cure lamp. (Primer AND coating)

Fantastic work. What's the life span of Modesta? Is the price comparable to OC?

Depends on the environment it lives in but comparable to Opti Coat.

Because of the lengthy application time, and materials cost Modesta is roughly twice the cost of Opti Coat.

Great job!...
But where is the beading/sheeting-water display-show off video? ;)

What things is it not tolerant of? Is it less scratch resistant?

Great work and thanks for sharing your photos.

I am also a happy Modesta customer. I have bc5 on our m5 and 997tts. You can really feel the diff. Great choice in product. Havering our other two cars coated soon too.

Thanks Mike! Got about 5 or 6 other cars on deck for corrections and Modesta coatings over the next few months.

First up is a blue '07 Audi RS4.

I haven't asked Alex yet but what is the cure time per panel with the IR light for primer and coating? Do we have any documented proof that primer does not interfere with the coating? I understand it was made to help BC-05 bond better but you know how the internet is, people talking about primer reducing the life of the coating.

- Richard

MShaunBauer - Modesta starts at $900 vs $400 for Opti Coat. These are starting prices, and can go up based on the size of vehicle in question.

Richard - Cure time with the IR lamp is 15 minutes per panel for primer and coating. After the primer has been applied and IR cured, it must be left to set up for 3 hours before the top coating can be applied.

As far as the primer's affecting the coating's durability, I have heard rumors too. It doesn't exactly make sense though because the nature of a "primer" theoretically, is to promote adhesion.....not decrease it.

The cure time really isn't that bad. Though not required, all real glass coatings would benefit from an IR lamp. I'm with you on the purpose of the primer. OPC comes with primer polish and is recommended. Thanks for the feedback.

How could you show off this type of product and not show us how it performs?!.....

For the price, it seems the only reason one would push this product is for the fact that it IS far better than the competition. I'm not talking crap about Modesta in the least bit, however it should come with it's own force field at that price!

:)

As far as I know, the primer actually will improve the longevity (and this comes direct from Modesta). Without the primer you are significantly limiting the coating.

And I cannot stand the gloss!

Looks great! Can't wait to try it out this summer... I've got BC03 & BC05 (as well as the primer).

I was just reading through the instructions from the Modesta site and it clearly states that all IR lights are completely an optional step, so don't let that scare anyone away if they don't have IR cure lights.

Cure time for primer (no IR lights): 180 min
Cure time coating (no IR lights): 24 hours... So very similar to many other coatings.

Brian your dedication to detailing and desire to continue to learn and improve your skills are amazing. You are the type of detailer I would want working on my car.
Gorgeous work!

Doh! I promise I'll get some sheeting/beading videos soon. Didn't really have time this go around. I'll be doing my GF's new Rav4 soon, so I can keep track of it's performance and durability.

Thank you VERY much, seeing things like that are a big part of the reason I do what I do. :)
