Be warned... Long story.

Well... The story begins when a family friend comes to pick up her daughter, the wife and I were watching for the day. Anyways, back to the story. She walks into the house, green in the face. We immediately ask if she was ok. She says that she needs me to look at her car because something is smelling... BAD! I go outside and before I even opened the door, I could smell it. SOUR MILK!!!

I ask what had happened and she stated that she let her roommate borrow her car for the day while she was at work. Her roommate had gone grocery shopping that morning. I guess one of the grocery "baggers" had placed the milk in the folded stroller when loading the bags into the car. The friend didn't see when unloading the car and went about her day.

Fast forward 14 hours.

The milk had baked in the hot sun all day and eventually the carton eventually ruptured. Releasing milk everywhere! I lend our friend the my car so she could go home with her daughter, 2 months old, and I could start to fix the disaster. Needless to say, it's already 2030.

First thing I do, roll down the windows! I pulled the car into the garage with the fan pointing inside to blow the smell outside. I put on a much needed surgical mask and start assessing the damage. After removing the stroller and other misc stuff in the cargo area, I find that all the vinyl panels, the spare tire cover and the rear windows were covered with milk... But of course, I used my last pair of gloves earlier that day :( I pulled the cargo flooring out and laid it in the driveway. Upon doing so, I found 3" of spoiled, rotten milk floating the bottom of the spare tire space. I pulled the tire and all of the tools out to be cleaned. Immediately vacuumed out all of the milk and sprayed with a HIGH concentrate of APC+ and a little water. I grabbed a small wheel brush and started scrubbing, scrubbing, and SCRUBBING! Followed with a vacuum, rinse and another vacuuming. On to the vinyl. Again, a HIGH concentration of APC+ and an old MF towel. Cleaned each panel twice. Using a different MF towel each time. Cleaned the windows, twice! It'll sound strange, but I smelled the vinyl to see if I "missed" a spot. Luckily, I didn't. Dressed the vinyl with a nice layer of DP Interior Surface Protectant.

Now, with the cargo cover... As I said earlier, I laid it in the driveway. I took the hose and started to rinse as much of the milk out of the fibers as I could I took some laundry detergent and began to scrub vigorously until is was nice and lathered. I proceeded to rinse again with the hose. Out came the Mytee S300 water extractor and the PC with CG upholstery attachment. I used CG Lightning Fast Cleaner and put the PC to work. Followed it up with the water extractor with some APC+ in the tank. Just a little bit. Smelled various spots to check for the stench and then placed in front of the fan for drying.

Wiped everything down thoroughly with the APC+ and reinstalled everything in the proper order. Placed all soaked, nasty personal belongings in a trash bag and sealed for delivery. The final touch... Two Strawberry Little Trees, per her request!

The results... Smell gone. No proof of the accident and she learned a valuable lesson!

Sorry for the long read. If you finished it, thanks. If not, it's ok. I understand.

Excellent work. That was very kind of you to help her out like that. :props:

Great save on this one. Nothing worse than a smell that keeps on giving. This one could have been a disaster.

That's one of the worst smells. Great job helping your friend out like that. Good thing she knows someone who'd know what to do to clean it up right. :goodjob2:

I think I threw up in my mouth a little!!!!

Great read and great save. I am sure she was thrilled!

I was in such a rush to save the car, I didn't take any pictures of the disaster. However, I was hoping to have given everyone a visual image of it. I was able to take 2 bad photos though.

These pictures were taken after the majority of the mess had been cleaned up. Please don't judge on the messy space. Haha.

Glad you were successful in remediating this spillage. :props:

Hardly anything smells worse than rancid, clabbered milk
that's been sitting in a car for an extended period of time.

Well...except for perhaps this:

What brush attachment is that on the PC?

I believe it's the Chemical Guy's Upholstery brush. I found it on Amazon. It was cheap. Works great!

Bwahaha. Thanks a lot for that. Lol. Now I'm going to have nightmares. I'll have to dream of the spilled milk to forget that. Haha. Thanks Bob. :D

Thx for this. Milk was just spilled in the back floor area of my car. The container was faulty. Most was on the floor mat but some got into the carpet on the center the hump. Hope it turns out as good as yours.
