Splatter from EZ Detail brush?... :(

How does one prevent the splatter and specks of water that fly all over your face when you pull out the EZ Detail brush from between the spokes? Can't imagine anyone wanting to clean wheels dealing with that
 
I just try to go slowly and gently. It's a great tool, but sometimes I do get spatter on my legs, arms and face. Part of the trials and tribulations of a beautiful car
 
Ok, so there is the garbage can lie/pie plate crowd. That is, you take a circular object and make a hole in the middle or a slit down to the middle and slide it over the stem of the brush to act as a shield against the splatter. Personally, I have developed a roll-up-the-sleeve, and get my whole body clear of the splatter zone except my arm...that usually requires sitting with my back to the car and reaching way over with the brush...that way (usually) only my hand and arm gets splattered, and that cleans off, as opposed to brake dust splatter on clothes, which never comes off. Or, you could just keep your face out of the way and wear black clothes :D
 
I learnt this trick from someone on these forums.

When you wanna take the brush out, do so by rotating the brush while pulling it out at the same time!

I too used to be covered up in liquid brake dust/cleaner etc and it was kinda getting frustrating lol! but this trick really worked! :D
 
Maybe step back and off to the side slightly?
 
Did I mention I now have a lot of polka-dot socks? Note to self: try to wear black socks when using these kinds of brushes.
 
Heh! I've got polka dot black shirts with compound splatter lol :D
 
i dunno what i'm doing right but i've never had a splatter issue with mine, and i've used it on all sorts of wheels - close spokes, open, mesh, etc. i am using the old blue/black ones so maybe the bristles are softer or something and it is less prone to that, i don't know.
 
As you pull the brush out from the wheel, twist the brush. That will minimize splatter.
 
I just wash my ankles and calves well after Saturday morning wheel cleaning. Havent found anything that works better and gets in their easily.
 
Get yourself the Raceglaze xl wheel brush or wheel woolies and you wont have that problem. :xyxthumbs:
 
I wear a rain jacket, (or if its burning up hot) an old t-shirt. For my shorts and legs, I lay an old terry cloth towel across my lap whilst scrubbing
 
I wear protective glasses while doing wheels for this exact reason. I really don't want APC or wheel cleaner in my eyes. Remember to keep your mouth closed as well ;)
 
So hard to get the clothes clean after too.

I usually get a hose and put it on low and i spray the wheel while i clean and when i pull out there is no splatter on me because the stream of water is pushing the splatter back at the wheels. :props:
