Spray On and WOWA Sealants applied over Carnauba

Traditional thinking has been to NOT apply a sealant on top of a carnauba wax primarily because of poor bonding with the wax (oils) and the fact that carnauba is not as durable as a sealant and would compromise the sealant's durability. But, some recent products seem to be exceptions??

I see that Dodo has a sealant/detailer (Red Mist) that can be used on top of a wax or a sealant, or used stand alone. WG's Sealant Spritz is recommended stand alone or to boost Fuzion carnuaba and many use AW to top/boost carnauba, along with 4* Spray Wax (polymer with alittle carnauba).

The WOWA sealants (Ultima's PGP, Optiseal, ZCS) can also be used to top carnauba, although many say they dissolve the carnauba layer (it is not removed, just repositioned?).

I have tried many of these to top carnauba and they seem to work, i.e., look fine and seem to boost the wax's durability.

Just wondering what others have experienced or what their thoughts are. Just a point for discussion.

I personally thick sealant sprays are compatible because of how little product is actually in them as well as other ingredients and polymers. I kinda think of most as a qder+ or detail spray.

I have tried Optiseal over Carnauba and could never get the results others like Optimum and Anthony showed in pics. I now prefer to stick to one WOWA sealant, buff off sealant, or carnauba for protection and then use the detail sprays I find work best for certain combos to keep them looking nice and new !

Killrwheels- Thanks for the reply.

If a Sealant Spray (e.g., WG Sealant Spritz or Dodo Red Mist) claims to be capable of stand alone use.....then I guess you dispute this when you say it contains little product (i.e., sealant)...and you may be correct?

I am no scientist and cannot confirm the ingredients nor their significance in the formula but based upon my own conclusions have found most spray sealants, spray waxes, and boosters to be quite limited in durability especially against their counterparts the actual sealant, or wax.

Its like Aquawax (not knocking it, an example) but I dont believe it offers the long term protection some have suggested on its own. I believe its the previous protection, current wash (some have polymers or ingredients as simple as beeswax to show beading) which lead some to suggest it "might" be protecting longer than it really is. Ex. If I have three coats (layers) of ABC Sealant on my car and top with Aquawax, how can I be assured it the Aquawax doing the protecting after a few days in the sun or rain ??

I base this personally on the quick falloff of the gloss and slickness and likely being washed away or removed by environment (UV , Rain) within a rather short time. Thats why I personally call them a qder+ as I believe they are best used inbetween washes and detail sessions to amp the surface on a rather temp basis.

Now please note , I love these products. Infact almost as much as MF Towels. I love the immediate look, feel, and nature of them and how easy it is to use them weekly prolonging a detail session but I would admit I am using them on a consistent basis after each wash weekly. Standalone, yes .... but how long and is standalone quite shortterm versus the lines counterparts ??

Seems to last for me, I've done a strip down and only used AW and it would bead for at least a month and then I would put another spray layer on.

This is what makes detailing fun...different products and different opinions. If there were just a few products and only one way to do it, it would be boring. I'm never a good judge on durability (always messing with stuff), so I'm out on that.

:iagree::whs:I've stripped down an old DD and applied AW and it would bead for at least 6 weeks and it is parked outside 24/7. To answer the OP question. I have also applied UPGP over Fuzion with good results. Fusion was on for a week before applying UPGP. On Killr's recommendation I've used Z8 as an inbetween boster will great results.
